what is the difference between the RMx and the RMi apart from corsair link? is it worth the extra $10

That is the only difference, its $10, if you can afford $10 just go for it 

EDIT: sorry RMx , im being dumb and thinking of the old RM, the RMx features japanese caps, they removed link because its kinda pointless on a PSU, 

so really its the better model to get

Well i Rmx has full Jap Caps but a cheaper fan ... i have RMX850 and loving it apart from something it vibration/humming in my build which make my silent build not so silent.

The RMx has a rifle bearing fan instead of the FDB fan on the RMi.

Lack of Corsair Link as you had said, Rifle Bearing fan instead of FDB like Sakkura said, and a lack of a fan test button. There's a 550w model on the RMx, while RMi starts at 650w. Other than that, they are based on the same platform.

Rifle bearing fan and lack of Corsair link on the RMx.

And yes, worth the $10 for the longevity of the fan but not for Corsair link unless you really need to read the voltages and wattage readout of your system.
