it would probably start smoking and burn out, and possibly send a power surge to all your components killing the GPUs, motherboard, drives, CPU, and maybe ram

Each 980 uses 200W under load with GPU Boost 2.0
3 of them use 600-650W

That's without extra voltage or power limit. If you do that they go to about 220W so 660-700 total

Metal won't melt under just typical gasoline though, just ruin the psu, hook it up to a kiddie rig or sell it.
