Which mini-itx case are you thinking of? Because some don't have great airflow, and for those you might be better off with an intel CPU

Some guy called my office, trying to sell me computers. I just said "oh you mean those little box's with the tv on top? Yeah, our accountant has some". He promptly gave up and hung up the phone lol

Unless you are going for a very budget oriented build then go Intel. The fx6300 is a decent cup but for most things the i3 6100 is better. The 8350 is a decent option but unless you are streaming or somthing that will take advantage of the 8 cores then go with an i5. Don't touch the 9590. It's a hot 8350. Just get an i7 if you are looking at it.

To to conclude I reccomend these four CPUs for a budget build. Check out prices and see what Is good for you

  1. AMD 860k
  2. Intel i3 6100
  3. AMD fx6300
  4. Intel i5 6400

I'm here to help people and have fun. Feel free to chat!

you may want to get Nvidia for this. Sure the difference between a 960 and 380 isnt huge, but in ITX builds you want to reduce the TDP of every possible component.

I know, because ive built a really dense ITX build where i have litterally ZERO POINT FIVE CM tolerance between the parts

380 isn't exactly hot tho. I doubt it'll be an issue.

@YBoel, dont take all components as it is, mini-itx is picky with size so its best to check compatibility of all things (the GPU mostly)

also, i left out an HDD, but you can buy that next time when you have the cash, or you can buy a HDD now and add an SSD later down the road, but i always recommend to have SSD + HDD combo, even in a budget system

uhm dude...

Overclocking my 7870k from 3.7GHz stock to 4.3GHz with just 0.0625v more caused me to see constant 40c+ temps inside the case. Despite having 17-19c ambient temp.

I considered a 380 ITX, but ill go with a GTX 950 Mini (was on a damn good sale) because even now, thermals ARE a challenge.

Picking a 970 over a 390 would make a lot of sense, but 960 over 380 is not necessary except for the most extremely cramped mITX cases.

well, if you gonna build ITX, unless its in a NZXT Manta or Corsair 380T, will be rather cramped.

Unless you get a Ncase M1 Mk4 or MK5.... but that is rather the exeption, not the rule

Seriously that case dopant have a great PSU selection and $19 for an alright PSU if your not overclocking was just a too good deal to miss, also the core 500 is a really  good case for the money!

Temperature =! heat dissipation. The cooler can be efficient and thus the temperature low, but the 380 still puts out allot more heat.

@Prysin The 860K is quite shitty tbh.

i know, thats why i said 845 in my post. But it hasnt come out in retail yet, let alone PPP.

It will still cost 69.99 USD.... but for almost Sandy Bridge single core perf (if all IPC estimates about Excavator lines up) and a fixed cache system  it should be quite a bargain(it can do with 2mb L2 cache, what other CMT versions can with 4MB L2)

And no, the 380 is merely 15-20w more then a 960... it is a very efficient architecture.

I mean, Tonga led to Fiji, and we can both agree that for the power it delivers, Fiji is VERY efficient.

Best setup, for ITX, would be a i7 6700k + Nano though... but the Nano alone is 499 USD :P

So now i have builded this with your help

Ignore the problem notification, ATX PSU fits in perfectly

get the Gigabyte FM2A88X WIFI.

It has a proper heat spreader on the VRMs. I own said mobo and it is quite good.

Wait until end of march to purchase, by then the Athlon X4 845 should be out. IT IS WORTH WAITING FOR

An 860K that's 10-15% faster is still crap. The i3-6100 is sometimes even borderline enough to run modern games due to the DX11 overhead. Let alone a chip that's half the speed.

An 860k thats 10-15% faster, costs HALF that of the 6100.

Also, as Digital Foundry proved, for i3 6100 to be good in modern games, it really need fast memory, which means you are forced to buy into the Z chipset.

Without fast RAM, it is not that much faster over a haswell 4360.

Granted, it IS a good chip. However for it to really show it's great value you need to up the price.
