Your friend is more or less right. 1150 has the 4670K which is pretty much the best gaming CPU. Of course it depends on the game. Battlefield and minecraft are CPU intensive so will potentially run better on 2011

I am good at computer

2011 is better but not gaming oriented. It's geared more towards workstations.

1150 is cheaper, has similar or better gaming performance in some cases, and actually has motherboards with gaming features in mind.

In any case, it's silly to consider any motherboard a 'gaming motherboard'.

Socket 2011 can support Intel's 6-core CPUs, and has some additional benefits like more PCI-e lanes and quad channel memory..

Games, however, usually don't take advantage of 6 cores, additional PCI-e lanes, or quad-channel memory, so it's not really a necessary thing to have. Like others have said, 2011's primary benefit is in professional applications..

Socket 1150 supports the newest Haswell CPUs, which is the latest CPU architecture that Intel has on the market right now. Generally, since games don't really use 6 cores, a quad-core i5 or i7 on the 1150 platform will usually perform better than the theoretically higher-end 2011 platform.

Edit: and 1155 is the older socket for the consumer level Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs, which got replaced by 1150/Haswell.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

i'm a 2011 user myself with my 3930k :P

i can say, my cpu is just takings naps when i'm gaming, doesn't break a sweat,
however with video editing and other stuff it comes in handy :)

so if you pure a gamer, go with a 1150 (because  it's the latest and like others said intel has released their latest cpu's on that socket)
if you want to do some video editing and other high demanding programs you'll gain benefit from the 2011, but with gaming it is useless

I7 3930K @4.4 GHz  /  Asus rampage 4 formula  / 4x 8gb kingston hyperx blue low profile / gtx 980  / 2x ssd 500gb samsung 840 / 500gb 840evo ssd   /  500 GB WD blue /  windows 7 ultimate
