Hello iam in the market for a new pc and when i checked ebay cpus like this one 2670 v3  (engineering samples) are very affordable, does anyone got a similar (es) cpu from ebay before?,are there any issues with mobo/ram compatibility?.

How do they perform in games compare to lets say 4790k/6700k with a small oc to about 4,4.

Please dont get hang up on the model of the cpu this is just as an example becuase is compatible with 2011-3 mobos (they are alot easyer to get compare to x79).I looking for feedback from ppl who have some expirience with this kind of setup.

You would be better off using a more mainstream consumer oriented CPU due to the higher clock speeds, and superior architecture. Games tend to use 1-8 threads, and having a CPU like a 6600 or 6700 will benefit you more than using a 12 core behemoth running at a much lower frequency.

Iam aware of this but i would prefer the xeon if they are lets say about 15% worse in gaming performance compare to 6700.

Any Xeon below 3.3 isn't game worthy... easiest way for me to sum it up for you. If you want some kind of multi core rig you can game on though go with 2011v3 and pick up a 5820k, later on down the road swap it out to that 6960X or something if you want.

There ya go. This might help ya figure out what you want to buy. If you are happy with a less cores, Skylake, if you want a more workstation oriented multi core beast - 2011v3.

The 1231 is essentially a i7 4770 with out the integrated gpu. It can be had for much cheaper and to be honest unless you are pushing the highest ends of gaming it should be a significant difference in any of your games.

Should have no problem at all using one of those. 3.4 clockspeed.

xeons have no where near the gaming as i5-i7 tjey're made to work in multi cpu-rigs and in workstations.

5820k/6960x/1231v3 have nothing to do with what i asked i do know that all those cpu are better for gaming, iam asking how much worse is the xeon in comparison.(also the xeon i posted and similar ones come pretty cheap around 250-350usd)

Roughly 30% slower and that's before you overclock the enthusiast chips which will widen the gap even more... You aren't even going to make full use of the 12 threads on the 5820k much less the extra 12 threads you get going with the Xeon.

The answer is it depends on the game. Most games will probably have a noticeable difference. Some will run like garbage. The problem with the one you posted is the 2.2ghz. Even multithreaded games depend single core performance. Generally they heavily utilize one core that pushes out tasks to do to other cores and waits for a response at least that's how I understand it. Its like a strong leader with minions the leader still has to keep track of everything and still has to wait for things to be done in a certain order. If a game is super GPU heavy you will still see a performance drop with a cpu clocked that low. With cpu bound games its going to be bad.

Also what is the purpose of having a 12 core Xeon. Not being sarcastic. I know people used to push cores for things like video editing and 3d stuff but with gpu acceleration now days that become less and less of a reason to do so with certain applications like Adobe.

You can absolutely use Xeons to game... just not that Xeon... 2.2-3 is SLOW.

I mean it's up to you, you can do whatever you want.... you came here for advice, I tried to give it to you. If you want to game, stick with over 3.3 if you are getting something locked that you can't OC.
