Xperia Z series is officially dead, succeeded by the X series

The news is true. Sony Mobile has just confirmed to us that the Xperia Z range ended with the Xperia Z5. Read the statement below.

Sony Mobile statement on Xperia Z series

“The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best ofSony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.

This is sad, as the Xperia X Performance will not sell here in Europe. Europe and especially the UK is where Sony phones actually sell well, so it is a stupid move to not include the flagship phone and price the midrange one at 600 euros.

Considering the rise of Chinese phones in Europe such as OnePlus, Huawei  and imported Xiaomis, it is sad to see that Sony might not get their phone marketshare back.

Still wishing they never dropped the Ericson branding....IMO Sony Ericson had one of the best design team. The Xperia Arc/S just looked amazing for it's time

The Sony xperia Arc and the S where made by sony design team. only Ericson made the cpu and memory design.

As much as that may be true...the design of the Sony Ericsson phones looks different enough to say that the designers weren't the same after the drop of the Ericsson name.

Then again, it can be called the "Modern" design...but it just doesn't feel quite the same.

They just adopted a different design philsophy. The Arc/Arcs Was a nice design, but they obviuously felt that they needed  a change....

Tho why they haven;t changed the current one is mystery to me :/

I really hope they continue to make a Z5 compact equivalent phone, something will all the power in a small form factor.

None of the announced phones are small. They're all 5-inchers. As a Z3C owner, that's very disappointing. They're also sacrificing battery life, since the X is a larger phone but has the same battery capacity as the Compacts: 2620 mAh, where the Z3C is 2600 and the Z5C is 2700.
