Fryed my CPU?

Hi, so I ran a CPU without a heatsink and fan and it turned it self off not long after, I know I shouldnt off but I did, the CPU was only £5. So is it dead or still alive? Thanks

If it doesn't boot any longer, even with the heatsink... then yeah, most likely dead.

most pcs will shutdown after a certain temp by default to prevent damage, but that cheap you maybe screwed. give it abit to cool off, check everything for damage and if its all physically okay boot it up

it either shut down for protection or it shut down because it died

the only way to know is to test it again

Fix the cooling situation and try again. Repeated exposure to excess temps will kill it.
