You are still rolling strong for a few more years. If you like, get the 9XXX series. @CoolBeans

Gpu and ssd sounds good. Wait for the 9000 series.

About the only thing I would consider upgrading is that video card to a 9970 (or whatever it'll be called), and possibly upgrading the ram (Maybe 12-16GB).

Oh and I would definitely add an SSD as your OS drive. Significantly faster even than a Raptor. Add a HDD as a data drive (Keep the raptor or throw in a 1TB+)

Never heard of Segaite before, should replace and buy from a more reputable brand.  ;)

The Rapter must be scary as well. (I apologize to OP in advance, I am just joking around and I hope you do not take it personally.)

I think it's a good idea to hold out for 9000 series and buy a single SSD.

RAID 0 with ssd's is pretty pointless in actual use, so I'd REALLY recommend doing one of the following:

1. Single SSD as OS drive + large storage HDD

or

2. Large HDD as OS + data drive with an SSD as a Cache

1. would definitely be the faster option though.

X58 was/is a strong platform. Raptor drives are pretty dated, go with an SSD and possible doubling your ram. The rest is still as strong now as it was back then.

If you really want holy crap performance, x4 your ram and make a ram disk.

Alright cool so what hd or ssd would be best for running games ?

I would recommend Seagate Barracuda as your storage drives and the Samsung 840 Evo as your SSD.

Any of the cheapest higher tiered ssds will do. Samsung 840, ssdnow v300, adata premiere pro, etc.--whichever is cheapest at the time.

Caviar blue or seagate barracuda for hdd depending on pricing or what capacity you're going for since Caviar blue caps at 1TB.

Found this on ebay that might be of interest to you. If you can snap it at the right price, it's a pretty high performance SSD. http://www.ebay.com/itm/331015473033?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l4455&_trkparms=gh1g%3DI331015473033.N7.S2.M1032.R2.TR6

I personally have that SSD in my system. Overall the performance is pretty good, much better than any mechanical drive, but considered a slower SSD....even during its time.

You should be a little cautious when purchasing a used SSD. You have to check / test / ask the seller how much usage it has on it (how worn is it). After so many Reads and Writes, the NAND chips in the SSD does degrade...and eventually fail.

Depending on where the OP resides, Newegg US has a Kingston V300 120GB SSD for $79.99.

Have you looked into the new Samsung 840 EVO? The speed on it is INSANE when "RAPID" Mode is enabled on it. Even without "RAPID" on, it's still quite impressive.

Really any modern SSD will serve you fine, go with whatever falls within budget. I remember back when I got my Patriot Wildfire, it was once the fastest non PCI-E SSD you could get and the performance is still great two years later. If I had to get a new SSD today, the Samsong 840 EVO would be it. Kingston would also be a solid choice. Never had a Kingston SSD before, however I did use Kingston ram in my old Vista machine and it was rock solid.

tbh its all down to the end user if you don't like be only at say 30fps on ultra(im just guessing) then get an upgraded video card if your happy then don't bother. Same with the ssd if your pc is slow to boot up and getting to files is slow then upgrade your storage and unless your doing quite a bit of casual multitasking dont upgrade ram. its up to you bro dont ask us we may think 6870 is unplayerble or you have to have an ssd
