Wait for Kaby-Lake?

Go to solution Solved by Darkseth,

before Kaby Lake comes out (which will be just a minor  Skylake refresh), Broadwell-E will come out (3rd Quartal 2016).

That's anyway not comparable, because x99 is a Performance/high end Platform, while skylake/Kabylake/Cannonlake is the Mainstream Platform.

So I want to upgrade to a new processor. I would really 5820k but im debating waiting for Kaby-Lake to come out? (Tbh not all that sure when its coming out)

I need the beefy CPU for video transcoding, so I dont want the skylake processors as the Cineform transcoding software uses all cores.

So wait would you do? Wait or buy now?

Honestly you may not see any benefit from waiting anymore. Intel said going forth they will be focusing on efficiency even at the cost of slight performance. Skylake and Skylake-E may very well be the strongest processors we see if AMD cant send them a strong message with Zen which is looking to be the same as intel focusing on efficiency though they have far more room for performance before they really have to choose between the two.

Also broadwell E is coming out this summer which is suppose to be the die shrink of haswell (5820k). Benchmarks show like a 2 or 3 % IPC gain so clock for clock they are more powerful technically.
