Why don't Nvidia cards downclock with 2 monitors?

Jackbe

Hi all,

I have just noticed that my GPUs aren't underclocking when both of my monitors are plugged in. I know that this is meant to heppen, but why don't the cards clock down to a reasonable speed instead of staying in their 3D mode. All this is doing is wasting power unnecessarily.

Has anyone found a way of stopping this from happening?

They are for me, I have a total of 9 monitors connected, and when I'm not gaming or folding, they clock down to around 500MHz.

Strange, mine are stuck at 980MHz ish and I have 2 1080p monitors. Maybe it's because one of my monitors is 144Hz.

Mine clocked down to full idle clocks with 5760x1080 @ 120hz (324/324). I have 680 SLI.

When I added a 60hz 2560x1080 'accessory display' my idle memory clocks increased iirc, so it was something like (324/700~)

Do you have the power setting at max performance in the nvidia control panel or is it on auto? I have a feeling I need to change some settings.
