So I have a windows drive and a Ubuntu drive. Lately my Ubuntu drive hasn't been working very good and I can't back it up from Ubuntu can I plug it in and load the ubuntu drive on windows and backup all the files by dragging and dropping all the files from the Ubuntu drive to an external hard drive will that save all my files from Ubuntu?

As long as Ubuntu is on NTFS or FAT32 yes.

But if it's on something Linux-only (can't rememeber what it is called*) you have to use GParted or something

*Just Googled it. It's ext2, ext3 or ext4

You can use some thing like macrium reflect to do a proper backup that can then be restored to any drive you want so you lose nothing and if you have extra storage you can do regular backups that are about half the overall size of the drive that's backed up.

If I use words like probably or most likely, it is because I dislike certainty. These words can probably be omitted and the sentence read as a certainty.

Can I backup the ubuntu drive and keep the hard drive image on an external hard drive and access those files?

Sorry this is an hour later i had to go to a class that doesn't let me use my laptop. To access the files in the disk image you have to restore them to a drive.
