Can I set my GPU and Display to 75Hz?

ShoshinUK

Afternoon Good People,

Ok I have confirmed that my HDMI connection is not a bottle neck, I run the following -

1. NVIDIA 780m GPU

Controlled by NVIDIA control Panel and MSI Afterburner

2. iiyama Prolite GE2488HS-B1

Horizontal synch 30-80KHz

Vertical synch 55-75Hz

I would like to FPS Game at 75FPS - 75Hz, as opposed to 60.

Resolution 1920 x 1080 16/9 aspect.

I can't change the Display setting to 75 etc.

So I am stuck, any help greatly appreciated!

Sometimes you may have to run it a bit lower for it to work if that's what you're asking, e.g. 70Hz or even 65. 75 is usually strain upon 60Hz monitors and it voids your warranty (just warning) but it should be fine for a while.

Make sure your monitor is connected directly to your laptop's GPU. Some laptops don't allow this due to the fact that the hardware does not allow. To know whether this works, connect your monitor to your laptop, then right click on your desktop on your monitor, make sure you only see NVIDIA Control Panel as an option, and not to see Intel Graphics Properties or something like that.

If you see this, it most probably won't work.

Yes only see NVIDIA control Panel.

I use a G750JH ROG gaming Laptop, which was top of the range a couple of years back. Some of them came with a 120HZ Display so I would imagine it's GPU output would be fine for what i'm looking to do?

It's well out of warranty so no real concern there, I don't want to break it mind.

You are referring to laptops with nvidia optimus, and yes most do not allow you to make custom resolutions in the nvidia control panel, because it is offloaded to the intel hd graphs, which does not let you make changes to that stuff. Some laptopls (ones that dont care about battery life too much allow you to choose which is running, and in that case you will be fine)

No, some laptops with Optimus have display connectors connected directly to the dGPU. An example is the Clevo P640RE, which has 1 mini DisplayPort connected directly to the 970M, while the other mini DisplayPort and the HDMI port is connected straight to the iGPU.

go into the nvidia control panel and see if it works if you make a custom res of 74hz. When using my old 1080p ips monitor, I was able to run it at 74hz, even though hdmi should be able to handle 75hz.

Just make sure you can make a custom res in the nvidia control panel:

My laptop does not have Optimus, which sounds like a good result!

Yes, thats why I said "most". I know of laptops that allow the user to switch between the 2, and ones where the monitor is not connected to the igpu.
