i need a 50ft Ethernet cable. and i was wonder if there was a big difference between cat6 and cat7 . is it worth the extra cash for cat7? how much faster is cat7? and i would be connecting it from my router to my pc.

If you only have a gigabit port, then 6 is fine.

It would only run at 100mbps then.

If you don't even have a gigabit nic then using those cables won't even give you the full gigabit it can use.

It would be the same. Both cables would be bottlenecked to 100Mbps.

With only a FAST ethernet card you could run a CAT5 cable and not see any depreciation of speed. Until we are talking > 1Gbit then Cat 6 or below is fine. If you want to go higher than go CAT 7. The only way I would advise CAT7 at the moment is if you want to re run cable for your whole house. I would run CAT7 because I wouldn't want to do all new runs in a few years when those speeds are more common.
