When looking around for parts I stumbled upon this cardhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814132051 and I must say this is a really cool card. . I think it is really cool how they fit the whole thing into a single slot card. I wish Nvidia and AMD would do this with their consumer cards instead of making them huge dual or triple slot cards. What do you think of this card? I know it is not for gaming however it would perform pretty good. Here is an article about gaming on Quadros https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Can-you-game-on-an-NVIDIA-Quadro-GPU-604/

For the price of the Quadro M4000, one could get a nice 980ti that would perform much better for gaming.

And notice that the Quadro cards only come with either all Display Ports or Display Ports with a DVI port. No HDMI.

Interesting but I agree with the two previous replies.

It would be better if I could gear that card for folding....

A single slot cooler isn't viable -- which is why they aren't really made. An M4000 runs at 750~ mhz whereas a GTX970 with a double slot cooler can get to 1500mhz~ (if it's a good overclocker).

All GPUs can be single-slot if the board partner makes the IO single-slot...

Why they don't do this more often, I have no idea.

Of course, water cooling is required for every card to be a good single-slot card.

Well can you squeeze 3 Display ports, 1 HDMI and 1 DVI all into a single PCI slot layout?

No, but I can fit 3 DP and an HDMI into a single slot.

Why is the DVI necessary?

Why would you get a quadro card for gaming? They are very overpriced for gaming. Also why do you have the need for a single slot GPU? Do you have only on slot left open for your computer?

I am not buying it for gaming (or at all for that matter) I was just saying it was a cool card. No I just think single slot is good because then nothing else is blocked.

Yes but a 980ti is not made for the same things the M4000 is. Also they use Display Port because it can be adapted to HDMI and DVI while with the other two you can not do that.

I don't know why DVI is necessary, but there are still monitors out there that use it. GPUs like the 980ti and Titan X are designed to support I believe up to 4 displays per card, and up to 5K resolutions. But from what I can understand of Display Port 1.2, to connect a 5K monitor you need to use a dual Display Port cable.

So I guess they need all those ports to support the various sorts of display setups.

No that is why this card used only Display port. Display port can be converted to HDMI or DVI, but HDMI can-only be converted into DVI  and DVI can only be converted to HDMI.

FYI, I know what the Quadro cards can do, I am looking to get one for myself and connect a professional monitor.

And the reason why Quadros have mainly Display Ports and DVI: because the professional monitors they are meant to be connected to use mainly Display Port and DVI.  Very few professional monitors use HDMI.

I know such monitors exist, three of my four shitty monitors are hooked up via DVI. My primary is using the actual DVI port on my 980ti, two are using DP to DVI adapters, and one is using a DVI to VGA adapter on a secondary 780.

So, if they can just include an adapter with the card, then the DVI port is all but irrelevant. It also has nothing to do with 5K displays.

Oh, and for the record, no I don't think companies should just drop the DVI port. I do, however, think they should offer more single-slot variants.

I have that card, its not cool when you run it at full tilt, quite warm actually(lol, but its true, gets on the loud side too with its small fan). It actually doesn't game that well, overheats and throttles when I tested GTA V.

It would be interesting to see what it could do if it did not throttle.

I have it in my work machine, use it a lot with Solidworks and some Autodesk programs. I just gamed on it since I was curious, lol.

Hm... I just checked the specs, and it looks like a heavily underclocked 970 with 8GB of RAM for $840...

I know Quadros are made to be stable and have certain features and blah-blah-blah, but that seems a little ridiculous...

Did you build your work machine? If so, why did you choose that card?

Its a machine my work sent me, although I spec'd out the machine. I chose this card since my options were: Intel HD on the i7-6700, some crap low end Quadro, this card, and a Quadro M6000 that my boss wouldn't let me have(cause it was too expensive lel).
