Hello LTT community,

My girlfriend has a terrible camera on her phone, so she is always borrowing my iPhone 5s to snap some pictures.

Lately, she has been saying that maybe she should just buy real camera.

I decided that I would like to find one for her birthday (mid April) if I can.

Seeing as I have no experience with camera shopping, I thought I would turn to the trusted LTT community for advice.

Here are some specs for which I am looking:

Easy point-and-shoot

Doesn't break the bank

Small/easy to carry

Fairly durable

Feel free to ask any deeper questions.

Thanks in advance for the help/advice!

I love my Canon EOS Rebel T3 so far and I've heard its a great intro to pro-ish photography. The T5(i) is slightly more high end it that's what you want.

Go mirrorless - small and capable of growing with her skills. I'd say go for an Olympus E-M10 or a Panasonic G7/GX7.

Primary Build: i7-4790 · 16GB Hynix DDR3-1600 · Sapphire Tri-X R9 390x · NZXT S340 · Win10 Pro · Seagate Barracuda 1TB T_T

These recommendations only work if the OP and his/her girlfriend are interested about getting into Photography.  What the OP wrote sounds like they are just interested in snapping photos for fun, in which case a small point&shoot is more than enough.

@a smelly oaf And no one is going to look down on your and your girlfriend for just wanting a camera to take snapshots, anyone who does is an arse.  Find a camera both of you are comfortable using and have fun.

That's true, but even so getting a camera with a larger sensor means better IQ in low light and all around. I stand by my original recommendation, with the addition of maybe the Panasonic LX100 and the Sony RX100mk2.

I'd recommend the Canon 1200D. If she's just taking casual photos, this $400AUD camera should do her just fine
