Get Raspberry Pi 2 or Wait for Pine 64?

Orangeator

I was about to buy 3 Raspberry Pi 2's for media centers then I saw the Pine 64. It has 2gb of ram and a better processor, should I wait for it? Or just go ahead and get the Raspberry Pi's? I am using this as a Kodi device basically for 1080p TV's.

Never said you should jump into the kickfarter boat. If you're not in a hurry it could end up being a better deal. I'm waiting to see actual user reviews beforehand (planning on smartifying a TV later in the year)

do you need hi10p ? do you need dts-hd-ma / truehd bitstreaming (to your home theater)?

if the answer is no, rpi2 with something like openelec (to save time on tuning) should be fine.

have you considered 3 x chromecast + plex on your nas?

I personally have three Raspberry Pi 2's that I have hooked up to my FreeNas Server and they work perfectly. I also use them in exactly the scenario that you would be using yours in I use them as clients hooked up to TV's.

I recommend that you get the Raspberry Pi's since they already have solid software support and a wide variety of compatibility. Just throw OPENELEC on them (my preferred distro) and you should be all set to go!)

Raspberry Pi has long been on the market and has a large community. It's better than new unknown product.

I would recommend the Raspberry Pi. There are lots of free and open source media centers available for a Raspberry Pi.

Get the Pi's.

I say this because we already know about them, they work well, well supported, lots of hardware for them.

There a brilliant device, I got one to make a network tester with a screen.

Sure the Pine64 maybe a good device , but we duno about support

I have two raspberry pi 2s: one running retropie and one currently acting as a security camera. Personally, I ordered the Pine64 2gb IOT bundle for an in-progress smart home project (which may become a smart van).

If you're looking to build media centers, I would go with the pi 2. Its a really simple project and the documentation is thorough. Pine 64 is a bit more cutting edge, but I can't attest to the quality; mine wont even ship until April.
