Pretty solid build, but you might need more storage depending on what sort of content you are editing.

Well.  This is a pretty good build.  Some things need to change. First off is your storage solution. Bigger HDD and a bigger SSD will be needed. I recommend a 240gb SSD and a 1tb HDD as a baseline for video editing or any computer that will need a fair amount of storage like a gaming rig. I reckoned a 240gb SSD and two 2tb HDDs in raid 1 (losing lots of data from an edit sucks from first hand experience).

Not it nessisary but maybe look at a Z170 board and a 6700k or even go X99 with a 5820k or a 6 core Xeon if you really plan for this to be a serious ending workstation.  If you are just editing on the side then 6700 is fine. If you do get an over locking ready cup I recommend a Noctua NHD15s and if you just want to stick with a locked possessor then stay with the stock cooler if you want but I recommend something cooler and quieter like 92mm tower cooler from Noctua or a Hyper 212 Evo.

Those are the only things I would change.

Nope. A 390 is probably a better option than a 970 and definitely better than two 960s. Not that I am one to talk.  I run 960 sli.

But if you are using Adobe programs like Premier Pro it would benefit from Cuda from the 970.

You can still get GPU acceleration from the 390 that will mean a similar level of performance.  But yes. Good point.

I went with a 390 because the motherboard is crossfire compatible but not SLI
