Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy new desktop speakers for my setup. I really like the Audioengine A5+ and A2+'s design. Do you have one of these? I have a small room and will use them for basic music listening, gaming and video-watching. Can you recommend them or do you know great alternatives?

Thanks!

You would have to pry my beloved A5+ out of my cold dead hands.  However, they are a bit expensive for what they are.  Most will say that the LSR305 is probably better value for money.

A5+ speakers can get a little boombastic in small rooms. Specially around the 60-100hz range if your room echoes, it can reverb.

I love them, but I have little to compare them to. So not sure what good my anecdotal recommendation will mean.

Heard about the lsr305, but they are even bigger then the A5+ and only come in black. So the A5+ are worth the extra for me

Do you use a DAC with the A5+ or just with 3.5mm?

When I first used them I used RCA line-outs from my amp to feed them signal from my PC.  Now I use my O2/ODAC.  They don't need a DAC if your onboard is good (aka no crackling, hissing etc).  3.5mm will work just fine.

OK thanks. Another question: is the quality same on low volumes or is there a difference? ( I have a rather small room and will mostly listen to lower volumes)

A5+ still sounds pretty good, even at ultra low volumes. They are actually very good in that regard.
