Is the tech forums just for news?

Hello

 

After a little bout with my parents about my brother's system overheating, I just want to ask you guys a question: Is the tech forums just for news?

 

I also keep questioning their sources of information as they don't participate on any tech forums. I always feel like they're too ignorant to make the best buying decisions for computer parts.

not sure what you are asking , but there are dedicated subforums for troubleshooting , helping other find parts , etc. Not just tech news.

Okay that's what I wanted to prove because they think these forums I participate on is solely for tech news. My father even thinks I am behind yet I know the same shit he does. Oh and you don't mind that he thinks for cooling, if it makes a 1% difference he jumps on it. Me, I think it's not worth it at all since the difference isn't enough to warrant that move.

Okay. I also see more discussion about current tech of a wide range as well as troubleshooting. I remember only three tech news related stuff and that's on Skylake vs. Sandy Bridge gaming performance and some new Asus ROG motherboards.

well people can post whatever they want so is not oriented towards anything. it's oriented around tech in general.

Well I don't know why anyone would think this place is just for news.  Should be easy enough to browse for all of 30 seconds and realize it's not though if someone didn't know.

The other quote that is the starting post is what I was talking about too. The only time they look for information is when they're in the market for a new computer component/accessory. And even then, I feel like they're not spending their money effectively. Like my mom for example: She spent almost $1,000 USD on an AMD + Nvidia build that's not even that much more different to my brother's system he has now. And we all know AMD is shit in terms of CPU performance. It's embarrassing! I could've spent that same near-$1,000 much more effectively by going Intel and throwing in a 950 because all of prefer Nvidia since we have a flawless track record with them.

Well I can't really comment on their skill or knowledge level, but if you've proven you can put together better systems for the money it would seem they could do to research a little better, and if they can't see or believe performance or cost figures when presented to them, then that would also be a bad sign but again I can't comment on that; you'll have to decide for yourself
