The question is quite simple. Is it bad or good if you run your pc 24/7.I had some trust issues with my pc after some incidents because of my stupidity.I pushed it a little too far and i had to pull back the OC.Now, as a test and precaution my pc has been running for 3 weeks straight.I will hit one month and give it some rest.Yes, i know it's consumer grade stuff and might have a negative impact, but i need to hear from you guys. Thanks

Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. Abused patience turns to fury.

it's never better to run something more, but as long as you're not overheating you're fine

Is had been more of a idle run.Gaming from time to time and just let it sit.The temperatures are really good.

oh, then it's fine, i run my macbook 24/7 idle and it's still going strong after 3 years :)

(i never shut it down, just close the lid)

unless you run some sort of server on the machine, why not set the power button to sleep? ideal setup since it powers on just as quickly as opening the lid on a laptop :)

Doesn't it enter in some kind of sleep mode after you close the lid?I might be mistaking tho

We have tons of systems running, (arguably cooled very well) for various tasks at my work. It shouldn't be a problem as long as there are dust filters and ample airflow

Welcome to LTT! Feel free to PM me if you just wanna chat, I love conversation!

If you ever have any audio questions, wether it's software, hardware, or production and theory, feel free to ask me. Odds are I can help you, or get you help.

It depends on your approach to OCing, if you used direct voltage( a constant say, 1.345v) for you OC and be it idle or under gaming the PC runs at that voltage then it is bad and will surly shorten the life of the CPU fast but if you use adaptive voltage( the CPU only uses what it needs no matter the OC) then the CPU will be fine for a long time.

Mitigating factors......

  1. CPU cooling quality - the better the cooling, the better the CPU cools
  2. MOBO quality - a failure here can affect the CPU's overall quality
  3. PSU quality - power power delivery can affect the MOBO and CPU causing failure at worse and poor performance at best
  4. CPU OCing method - adaptive is better for the CPU's life span when OCed
  5. the CPU's quality that you are using - not all CPUs of the same model say 4790k are the same as others, some will use less voltage to get a random OC and others will/may use more or not even get to the same random OC as another

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

Does that still count as RUNNING your computer 24/7?

It does remain someone in a running state. The pc is not fully turned off...technically, no

No. The hardware is designed for it. OC is out of specification, and hence such nothing is guaranteed, and all depending on your OC. If you configure your OC so that you set the voltages to the max, and only clock it at 10 MHz more (say, but MHz doesn't matter), than you are definitely not going to have a system that operate properly for long compared to one that OC 2GHz more and didn't touch voltages, because he won the loto and got a super CPU that can do that all being super stable, despite you "only overclocking by 10 MHz"

So, saying "is good to leave the computer on 24/7 while my CPU is OC?" is not a good a question.

But if you wonder, assuming no hardware manufacture defect on any parts, quality hardware, and proper cooling, your system, running 24/7, will last the life span of how much you'll keep it. You'll long change the system before it becomes an issue. I am talking about past 7 years, here.
