Monitor with external power supply

KRC1023

Does anyone know of a 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 19-23" monitor that uses an external 12v supply? The external supply is extremely important.

I know, it's a strange thing- why would anyone want an external power supply? I don't claim to know the answer. I do however have a very good reason for wanting a monitor that runs off 12VDC. Age is no concern (within reason), and cheaper is better.

I can't think of one off the top of my head. But I will see what I can find. Probably something that was made to be super-thin.

My HP 27vx has one, but I got it open box at $130 when it usually runs a bit more than 200 and is also 27 inches...

Are you trying to get a monitor capable of running off of a battery of sorts?

No, it's for an insane LAN gaming system I'm trying to plan. Basically I would be taking apart the monitor and building it into a laptop-like frame with a keyboard and mousepad area. I'll be posting a build log (with videos) on here if/when I do it. The reason for wanting the 12VDC power connection is so that I can run it off of a cable coming from the computer's PSU.

I realize I'm crazy. Ignore it.

Why would I look into TVs? I want a DVI input. Also, I don't like using TVs as computer monitors. They don't look as good IMO.

An LG Flatron E2040S has an external 12V PSU. It's 20", and 1600x900, and not a bad monitor at all. :)

It also doesn't seem to exist- no amazon listings (USA) and also no one selling on eBay. Looks good except for the fact that nobody is selling one. :P

  • 2 years later...

I just bought a cheapo 1440p monitor for $160 off of eBay that happened to have a 12v external power supply-- it's a qnix qhd2410R. 24" and Is vesa mount compatible.

I literally signed up for the forum so I could bump this thread. I, too, seek monitors with 12v power.--Gonna put a retropi in the family minivan, but the aforementioned monitor is for my desk, and while it's too big for the van, it would be baller for OP's project.
