If you think tournaments, they are about even. CSGO is only game from the big ones that doesn't have one big major/grand tournament for which team gains points through out whole year. Thats actually bad thing. While it might have become bit too big thing for some Dota2 players/teams, its quite stabilizing factor. In CS team only needs to be together for few months or half year, enough to attend 3-4 majors and then they can disband. Valve requires Dota2 teams to be together almost whole year, or have 1-2 player switches to qualify as participant.

 

But thats only at highest level. Which new player won't reach easy, or in year or two. At lower and entry levels I still feel like CS is better. It has been the LAN game for ages and supports smaller teams. Its common to have 2v2 or 3v3 tournaments in local events. Those are good place to show off your actual skills, and gain something to show for orgs or bigger teams when applying. At mid level they are about same. Both have online/offline tournaments with even prize money involved.

 

In core and player base is bit different. There's where genre becomes bit important. Like said previously, Dota2 and other mobas are very popular in Asia. In there professional gaming is easier to take as job. CS is bigger in EU and America. While its hard to take it as profession, you can rise to lower part of top end pretty fast with LAN achievements.

well CSGO seems to be more booming now, it also seems to have more money in it since it is so booming with players.. um and I probably wouldn't go pro in either because I'm not good enough

CS is rising, but most of the money is in Dota. This will change, but not for at least a year. Dota is Valves main priority right now

Hey, you found the caps lock button, good job.

Unofficially, that could happen within the next two years. I may see Valve upping price money to 1 milion instead of 250k for the majors, but not more. Where a lot of the money will be coming from, is the stickers. With Turner (TV network) having its own 1million dollar league, I could see Valve supporting that by allowing stickers for those events. If I remember correctly, the overall payout for the biggest major last year (ESL One Cologne) was 4.2 million, despite having only 250k price money. The rest came from stickers and signatures.

Dota is currently Valves highest priority and it will stay that way for the foreseeable future.

Grow up kid you will never be pro in any of these. I watched a very informative documentary and people in korea and china have schools for this. One kid had no plan other then to become pro so if he fails he is really screwed. He was playing 88+ hours a week and they had some crazy discipline when they messed up.

Dota 2 would be better because of less cheating, bigger prize pools, a bigger audience, and other things.  League would be a better choice though, biggest PC game currently

It might. But you are going on this question all wrong. You might never see those big moneys if you need to ask which game to go for. No one plays at pro level just because they get paid to do so. You need to love game so much that you are willing to spend 10h+ days practicing and keep playing even when you whole other team is crap.

I wouldn't go pro in either, but if I had to choose, it would be CS. Mainly because I cant stand MOBA games. Not to mention, the Asian side of Dota is dominating the market, such as Europe dominates CS.

Thats  another bad example. Game which is free has ofc more players. Also more players doesn't mean that its better game to go competive with. Rather that its harder to make it to the top.

Well CSGO is really cheap. I was trying to make the point that If Dota players can buy compendium 4 times (PROOF) in a year, which each costs more than CSGO they can easily buy CSGO. The point is that they enjoy Dota 2 more, money is not a factor for the majority of the dedicated players. 

And what do you mean Dota 2 is not competitive? I mean how do measure a game's competitiveness ignoring the number of players and prizepool ? Dota 2 has more tournaments.

Where in my posts I say that Dota2 ISN'T competitive? Only thing I say is that you can't measure competitiveness, or rather which game is better to go pro with, by throwing around numbers for most online players at any given moment or size of biggest prize pool (which may never happen again).

Mark my words it will happen again. At least for the next decade. Dota 2 is slowly attracting the serious and mature LoL players and the community is ever expanding (LoL is like CoD & Dota 2 is like CSGO). A lot more development happening in Dota 2 than any other MOBA right now.

I've somewhat followed both scenes. Dota2 about two years from TI3 to TI4 and CS from 1.6 times on. But I'm not going to take a stance which is more competitive. I would say that CS is easier to go pro with. But thats just my opinion. Its really hard to make direct comparison for games that represent two different genres. If question would be LoL vs Dota2, I'd pick Dota2. Or CSGO vs Halo/Cod, I'd say CSGO anytime.

im talking more about the competitive scene and not the genre,like which game is better in terms of paying the players and which game has a more stable competitive scene,fro example dota 2 only had ti as a big tourney and if u didnt do well in ti ur career was over,but csgo has lots of tourneys and so teams can participate in tourneys year round instead of preparing for 1 game a year then not winning it.

If you think tournaments, they are about even. CSGO is only game from the big ones that doesn't have one big major/grand tournament for which team gains points through out whole year. Thats actually bad thing. While it might have become bit too big thing for some Dota2 players/teams, its quite stabilizing factor. In CS team only needs to be together for few months or half year, enough to attend 3-4 majors and then they can disband. Valve requires Dota2 teams to be together almost whole year, or have 1-2 player switches to qualify as participant.

 

But thats only at highest level. Which new player won't reach easy, or in year or two. At lower and entry levels I still feel like CS is better. It has been the LAN game for ages and supports smaller teams. Its common to have 2v2 or 3v3 tournaments in local events. Those are good place to show off your actual skills, and gain something to show for orgs or bigger teams when applying. At mid level they are about same. Both have online/offline tournaments with even prize money involved.

 

In core and player base is bit different. There's where genre becomes bit important. Like said previously, Dota2 and other mobas are very popular in Asia. In there professional gaming is easier to take as job. CS is bigger in EU and America. While its hard to take it as profession, you can rise to lower part of top end pretty fast with LAN achievements.

Not true. Stewie2k, now playing for C9, was playing just over a year when he got accepted into a team. He got accepted into Cloud9 about 16 months after he started CS:GO. Not just that, but he was in the middle of school (he's now 18, was probably 16 when he started). So technically, it is possible, but don't count on it.

Most likely not, as Valve is focusing on Dota 2. You also have to note that there are other tournaments in csgo not affiliated with valve and those tournaments usually happen every one to two months with like 250k prize pools

I looked it up and on a top 100 earning pro players, the top 55 are only Dota 2 players, and in total I think 78 of the 100 top earning players are dota players.
