what are the dangers of spray painting the back of a video card with a matte black paint? Could the paint short it out? Will it cause static buildup?

Could the paint be corrosive or damaging to any of the components?

Build: Fx-8120@4.1ghz,  Gtx770@1.0ghz,  16gb Patriot memory,  Cheap case from thermaltake

Just make your own backplate as it's much safer than spraying a card and it often looks better than a PCB. Not to mention that it will preserve your warranty.

What exact model graphics card is it?

 

Also, it's the worst idea I have ever heard.

unless your talking about a backplate, I'd never risk painting bare components on PCB!

NEVER paint a component. If you have to, just get a backplate!

I'm fairly confident that whatever warranty you may have on that card would be history should you do this.

Unless you are trying to find creative ways of killing your graphics card, don't. Just get a backplate and paint that if you really have to.

I don't get why people are bashing this in, he's just asking a question

 

and as for the answer, don't do it - it is possible with non conductive paint - however it's still warrant a "don't do it" mark
