Let me know what y'all think and what I could do to save a few bucks anywhere. My price cap is about $1500.

Thanks!

Why a locked CPU on such expensive mobo? Also locked CPU with an expensive AIO?

Change it to a 6700K and the build is fine.

Yes people will recommend a 390 over the 970 but I'd get a 970 myself too probably.

I agree, get the 6700K instead. Also, the 390 is a better value than the 970 and has better performance

For now locked intel skylake cpus are overclockable so it saves money.

Since I use Cinema 4D, I want to start using OctaneRender which only supports NVIDIA cards right now afaik. So the 970 fits that bill.

Buy a dual channel memory kit (2x8GB) rather than two single sticks. Single sticks leave open the slight possibility that they will not operate in dual channel.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Can't use the 390 with OctaneRender right now. If you swap the air 540 for an air 240 i think this would be good.

Hence I said FOR NOW.

But it isn't important either way considering that as long as the older bios is available you can just use that instead and get the much cheaper overclocking.

Regardless of the price of the mobo I dont have any real need to overclock, and since I didnt plan on OC then I figured the K wouldnt be worth the extra money.

Than the expensive mobo and cooler aren't worth the money either.

I'm building mATX to accommodate the lack of space in the dorms here. Gotta keep it small.

Then unless you have a particular look in mind, I'd recommend a cheaper mobo. I'm making a glorious looking build right now for you here, but you must be informed that cheaper more powerful systems can easily be made.

Does the GA-X99M support NVMe? I plan on using the SSD for a lot of content creating especially 4K. I'd like to try and go for the fastest speeds possible. Also looking to find a board with Type-C. I develop with Nexus phones and it's become frustrating having to look for longer Type C cables that convert to Type A.

Admittedly it does not have a type-C connector. But this is a pretty powerful little box. Doesn't show, but the motherboard comes with a cpu cooler.
