Will 6700k Bottleneck 2-Way SLI Titan X's?

Hi,

Basically will a 6700k bottleneck dual Titan X's I personally don't think it will all it will do is run both cards in x8 x8 but I haven't seen any testing so I cant confirm if this is correct or if it would bottleneck. I currently have a 5960X sitting in my drawer because I don't have a motherboard for it so I was considering swapping to the 6700k however I wouldn't call it a downgrade as the majority of tasks and programs these days are still single threaded so the 5960X is only really better in multithreaded workloads such as streaming. I am also trying to find out if the m.2 slot on z170 will provide same speeds as on x99 as when I did have a motherboard I was achieving 2250mb/s read and 1200mb/s write speeds. From what I have seen both CPU's are similar in performance in games and I have been told both will be fine for streaming on twitch so I question if I will see much of a difference where I don't render anymore. I have asked some of these questions before but not in such detail as I am trying to get as much information as I can before I make a choice  Lastly can someone explain what DMI is and whether or not the z170 has better DMI vs x99 or does this really not matter.

Thanks

No it won't bottleneck. I don't know what DMI is either.

Tricky choice to make as in most applications both CPU's will be close so I can't really make up my mind what to do. only thing z170 has over x99 really is USB type C.

Instead if downgrading to a 6700K, why not get a nice motherboard for your 5960X with the $400 that the 6700K costs?

Id stick with the X99 platform, would be a downgrade to the 6700K, but I think you know this lol. Also theres gonna be no issues with PCIE lanes with the X99 and you have the option of a 3rd card (id be tempted to sell 2x titans and grab 3x 980ti =)  )

If I had to choose, I'd sell the 6700k (if you want) and get a nice motherboard to run the 5960x. Anyways, addressing to your question, the 6700k wouldn't be a bottleneck to 2-Way SLI Titan X's.

At the moment I already have the 5960X if I went 6700k I would sell the 5960X but I'm looking into best options at the moment what brand of motherboards do you usually go for I haven't had the greatest of luck with MSI on the x99 platform so now considering the Asus Rampage x99 or one of the Gigabyte boards preferably in red if I stay with x99 not sure what Asrock is like.

I was gonna go for the ASUS Rampage V for my 5960x, but since I wanted no problems I went for the ASUS Sabertooth, for the extensive testing they do on their motherboards before shipping. They even give you a certificate! Haha

I did look into that but the Titan X doesn't fetch much on the second hand market as no one is stupid enough to pay that much when a 980ti can get same performance I was just unlucky to have bought Titan X's before the 980ti was released. :(

Yeah, I was lucky enough to have waited to see how the 980 Ti performed before buying my PC.

I did consider the Sabertooth just not sure how it would look in my red themed build :/ I am torn at the moment I know my 5960X is a great overclocker and will likely last longer than a quad core i7 so that pretty much tells me to keep it but too many motherboards to choose from :P

Yeah, wouldn't look that great on a red-themed build. The good thing though about X99 motherboards is that they're all relatively good. If it's a red themed build, what comes to mind is the Rampage V.

I bought my Titan X's around the time when everyone was speculating whether or not the 980ti would exist as to start with it didn't look like there was a place in the market for it but in the end the Titan X became the card with no place in the market they also coil whine so bad compared to 980ti's

Yeah or the MSI boards but i'm trying to avoid them for a change this time as I have used MSI boards for the last 5 years lol.
