Still Using a 1100T Phenom!

Go to solution Solved by Dzzope,

Personally if updating the platform I'd go with this... then upgrade the gpu when you can in 6 months or so.. Also add more storage if needed. Got budget for 2 or 3 TB drive.

So i have an 1100T phenom that i have been using for the past 4 years. I have not had the ability nor the real need to do any kind of upgrade beyond the graphics card.

Well it has come to this now , i am still pleased with the performance of the cpu. But my need to upgrade a bit has come, so far my budget is about 650.00 USD i have currently a M4A78T-E Mobo , 12gb of 1600mhz ram, 500gb hdd ( dont ask) R9 270x , in a corsair 600t, with corsair 750watt psu.

My upgrade i have chosen is a seagate SSHD  1TB , Gigabyte GA-990FX G1 board, CM hyper T4, and Sapphire Nitro R9 390 8gb card , didnt want the HBM memory card the cost is a little too high.

Ok so in conclusion my question is how much more relevant can my processor be to me? could i get at least one maybe two more years out of it ?

Thanks.

I think you would need to upgrade it to stay relevant.

IMO you should hold off the other upgrades and get a new processor first.

IMO it won't be too much worse than something like an FX-6300 so it's still kinda relevant. Personally, I'd sell the 270x and then pick up an 8320/8370 for an extra kick in the rear.

Well it is a great processor, and with that motherboard you could get a rather decent overclock. Seeing you have had it for as long as you have and don't feel the need to upgrade I would say you can easily expect 2+ years out of it.

With that 990FX board you will be able to overclock the 1100T quite well, so your system life will be extended depending on how well your chip does.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

What sort of tasks do you do on this PC? If you do any extensive gaming, I would, in my opinion, invest into a newer platform and CPU, something like an Intel Core i5-6400 + R9 380. This option would also remove the necessity for any sort of aftermarket cooling solution since it's not extensively OC'able (The i5-6400). If you say the CPU still satisfies your needs, then I would say go ahead with your lovely upgrade! Like others have said, that motherboard will allow for some pretty good overclocking on that 1100T

Intel Core i7-5820K (4.4 GHz) | Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB  | 2x 360mm Custom Loop (Noctua iPPC) | ASRock X99 Extreme6 | Samsung 840 EVO 250GB | Fractal Design Define S | Corsair HX750 | Windows 10 | Corsair M65 RGB PRO | Corsair K70 RGB LUX (CherryMX Brown) | Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro & Creative Sound Blaster Z | Nexus 6P (32GB Aluminium) | Check out my setup: Project Kalte Here!

Well this year my wants are certainly winning. Also with the Division coming out in March, and Star Citizen now becoming more popular the HP all the way around is what is needed. I am open to upgrade suggestions if you have any.

What's the "750Watt Corsair PSU"? I hope it's not CX750/CX750M?

Or replace the CX750... You could almost build a seperate rig, sell it and just start from scratch... (keep your case, buy something reasonable but cheap, sell as entry level gaming rig)

The issue is, as soon as you put a power-hungry high-end GPU there like the R9 390 Nitro (which is great btw) it will fail sooner or later. My bet goes on sooner.

Any XFX/Seasonic, or EVGA (B2/GQ/G2/GS) will do if you'd like to change it. I highly recommend it because CX series is for entry level builds with no dedicated GPUs or some office builds, it's great for those tasks but it's terrible for overclocking and higher end stuff

If you could sell your current rig with the case in this list for say 350, you get this build for your 650 budget.. You could throw in a small ssd in your current rig to give it a bit more oompf and selling point too.. with a 40 - 60 dollar ssd, I don't think you would have too much trouble selling it for 400 - 500 bucks?
