They're specifically designed hardware They still out perform a PC of the same cost, if you include the price of windows and case.

Well, they launched already underpowered, not having a dedicated GPU. They probably did this to get it to cost as low as possible, not thinking it'll get really old quickly, contrary the PS3 and Xbox360 were really powerfull hardware on their launch. And they are for people who don't really care for actual customization or power and didn't expect that theyy will have to buy a new one after 2-3 years, because games are already getting too heavy for'em

Consoles are a completely different market than a PC.

Some people like to not get their hands dirty or they like their exclusives, many people(myself included) buy a console mostly for exclusives(Nintendo ftw).

Others are simply ignorant, or just want to play party games like FIFA/PES/2K etc on their living room with some friends.
