windows 10 is amazing and im not sure why people are not upgrading, like its free and has multiple desktops. what more can you ask for :P

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Besides Windows 10 is a billion times better than Windows 7... like a billion. Best OS ever from MS, it's like the Windows XP for 2015. The OS is very fast, performs well with video games, and is a power users dream. I do so much shit with Windows 10 and it always never chugs or slows down, ALWAYS zippy and convenient to use.

People need to get off the dick of XP...

Vista was better than XP. 7 was better than XP... Literally every incarnation of Windows since XP has been better than it.

XP was utter dogshit until SP3, but dem rose-tinted glasses be stronk.

Vista was better than XP? Oh dear... Vista was only good if you had the proper hardware to run the OS. I used Vista and the first service pack fixed the major issues with Vista, before the service pack Vista was utter dog shit. Yes I agree that 7 was very good from day one. 8 was good from day one, same goes with 8.1 service pack. Vista... oh dear... don't get me started with that OS.

And XP didn't have that issue at all... Not a single person complained about how insanely resource intensive XP was over previous OSs... O wait... Literally everyone bitched about it. It took Microsoft 3 service packs to get the OS even in a semi-reasonable state.

Additionally you realize that 7 from top to bottom was nothing more than Vista with a different paint job? I mean literally its code from kernal to top is nigh on IDENTICAL. More similar than even 8 and 8.1.

Ok that last line is a bit of an exaggeration, but it is always amusing to me that the "criticisms" of Vista were literally the criticisms of every single OS that had come out up to that point. Seriously though, people used to call MS-DOS a bloated resource hog...

Instead of letting it be, social self-reinforcing pressure led MS to effectively throw out Vista 1.1 (Win 7) to massive critical acclaim because it "wasn't Vista". I wonder what Barnacles would have to say about that launch... I have to assume some devs at MS could do nothing but throw their hands up in exasperation.

Amusing how much of a difference a generation or two in hardware improvements and a bit of self-fulfilling prophecy can do for a OS...

Windows 10 is mostly Windows 7 with:

- reduced control over visual settings, Windows Update settings

- a reduced-functionality start menu

- lots of monetization for MS through built-in apps

- in-OS ads

- built-in spyware from MS.

There is no performance advantages in Windows 10 over Windows 7 unless a person is running a DirectX 12 application - but Windows 7, and all other Windows from XP onwards, is getting Vulkan, which accomplishes the same low level driver-hardware communication that produces increased application performance.

It's challenging to qualify a statement that Windows 10 is better than Windows 7.

But the upgrade is free.

OP, you aren't stuck with anything. Your PC hardware will work with Windows 7 or Windows 10 just fine. Windows 10 is not restricted with its hardware compatibility.

But soon, going forwards, a lot of new CPU and GPU hardware will only be given official support for Windows 10, while certain other new hardware will continue to receive official support for Windows 10 and Windows 7 / 8.

Not having official support doesn't mean that hardware won't work with earlier OSes, though.

You current hardware is not affected by this restricted support, and if it were, it would be restricted by not having official support for Windows 7 / 8, but be fully supported for Windows 10.

I was until recently running Windows 10 on a Radeon 5770.... You'd be crazy not to update to Windows 10, a 6 month old operating system will have far better support for processor architecture and hardware than a 4 year old one

They would probably have the exact same support, or close to it, until the time that a hardware developers stops making releases for the old system - which is what will soon begin to happen regarding certain new hardware.

There's more than that, it boots up faster
