Hopefully Zen will be the beginning of this comeback. There's not telling the future though, so all I can do is hope.

Yes, if AMD really does get a 40% IPC increase with Zen, then they will be freaking epic CPUs

Do you guys think AMD will ever release CPUs that aren't trash in comparison to Intel, or will continue to sell better price to performance chips that can't compete?

we don't really know. Polaris's/zen success is only speculation at this point , and hype isn't based on anything but leaks and annoucements by amd ( ie no benchmarks ).

I just hope they do make a comeback

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

Assuming you mean high end CPUs. We'll have to wait and see what Zen is like.

Personally, I don't think they're going to be able to come back from the slump they've been in. While I hope they stir up both the high end GPU and CPU market, I don't really think it's going to happen. It seems like it might just be a matter of time before they either go under or get bought out.

I've watched the 2 go back and forth since the mid to late 90's: and even then I bought Cyrix :D

But.. It's entirely possible.  It certainly has been quite a while though.

i hope so, was a real AMD fanboy when i had my old computer lol and Intel and Nvidia need something to compete with or they wont have to do anything innovative and exiting and the market will kinda not move

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Flip a coin, heads they do tails they don't. They seem posed to be bought out unless they wow this/next year.

i dont even need a cpu to compete with the 5960x just something to compete with the i3, i5 and i7. Imagine a quad core that performs the same as an i3 for 99 bucks, That will be the most perfect CPU

So long as they include 1 FPU per core and a good AVX implementation, yeah, they can totally outdo intel.

Assuming price is still reasonable, that is.

I hope so, Intel forgot about the PC market, they almost just focus on servers and small devices, you can easily play demanding games with some 8 years old CPU right now, try doing with with a 16 years old CPU and a 8 years old game, would be impossible or would play really bad.
