Will running GTA V in a USB 3.0/3.1 be better/faster than in a HDD?

I've been experiencing texture pop ups and glitching in GTA V due to the fact i'm using a 5400 RPM HDD. So, will running GTA V in a USB 3.0/3.1 be better/faster than in a HDD in order to get a better gaming experience? Will it run fine? Thanks in advance.

K, GTA V is literally a 60GB game, you're going to have to find a really huge capacity USB for that, like 128GB, which cost the same as an 850 EVO SSD.

If you connect a HDD through a USB 3.0, might as well leave in on your hard drive. If you connect an SSD, you may see a difference, not really sure.

What kind of Usb drive? A USB HDD will basically be the same, while a USB SSD will be much faster.

Well I have a Kingston HyperX Savage 128GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive and a SanDisk Extreme 480GB Portable SSD USB 3.1 lying around the office. Which one should I use for portability and speeds?

Try running the game in half v-sync. I had texture glitches as well but I don't have it anymore after doing so.

My Ultrabook has refresh rate of 60 hertz. Playing at 30 FPS? no way.

Check your other specs too. VRAM and RAM shortages really mess with GTA V performance. For the 2 weeks I only had 4GB RAM, it was pretty much unplayable. Beyond that, the SSD by far. It should be faster, as well as more capable of handling lots of reads and writes.

Wat, I think it's not the HDD's fault lel, it's your ultrabook's GPU.

So you're saying it's the Nvidia GTX 970M's fault?

Wait what? What exactly do you have? It would have helped if you had some specs to go along with your original post.

Don't be getting mad, you didn't tell us any of your specs. Is your CPU alright running it? Its a massive game, especially when you push for lots of NPC variation. I'm impressed you can run it at all on an ultrabook (not that I've seen many with a 970m).

That's a hell of an ultrabook  :P  Seems odd to have such a slow HDD in there.. But then, manufacturers do weird stuff sometimes. In that case, its quite possible the HDD is an issue, I assume you've watched things with Task Manager to see disc activity already. I say go ahead and try the external SSD, and maybe look into the possibility of swapping out your HDD with a new internal SSD?

The cheapest way would be changing that 5400RPM HDD to a 7200RPM HDD. The only problem is that 7200RPM HDDs for notebooks hardly come in 3TB flavours.

Or even if they did, it would munch battery life pretty hard.

If it fits on a 64 GB flash drive, they're down to $30 for a USB 3 one.

IMO 30 fps is better than texture pops. I still cant find the solution to this problem.

Depends how fast the external hdd is but I doubt it will be much faster. Any idea which 5400 hdd model you have now? For GTA V an ssd would definitely improve the issue.
