Hey guys, I recently received as a gift a powercolor r9 380 4Gb graphics card as an upgrade to my gtx 760.

I was super excited to try out my games on this shiny new card but was rather let down when i had WORSE frame rates than my gtx 760.

I avg about 50 fps with most settings on high on Fallout 4 and only really dipping below 30 when i used a fat man danger close.

with the r9 380 i avg 28 fps walking down a hallway with everything set on low and now AA, no AO, no Anisotropic  Filtering, no god rays, all fade options set to lowest.

this is driving me crazy because i know this card should be pulling at least 1.5x the workload of my 760.

any tips or suggestions are welcome

**CPU** | [intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor]
**Motherboard** | [ASRock Z87 Pro3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard]
**Memory** | [A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory]
**Storage** | [Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive]
**Video Card** | [MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card
**Case** | [NZXT Phantom 410 (Gunmetal/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case]
**Power Supply** | [Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply]

this is my build with the 760 obviously replaced

Your PSU is not good enough for this setup. It might be the cause of your issues

1. Try reinstall the driver with DDU.

2. Try other games.

3. Try reset setting to default.

Anyway, latest Beta update v1.3 for Fallout 4 improved the performance pretty significantly for AMD cards.

Please stop posting that shit. A 970 not getting 60fps when there have been benchmarks ever since launch showing the 970 getting over 60fps? That site is heavily AMD biased.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I have a similar problem. I use the same exact card and play FO4 as well. Though my frames don't dip as low as yours. I tweaked the settings a bit. I heard that shadow distance has noticeable impact on FPS, so I turned that down. When I go into MSI Afterburner and view my GPU usage it's all over the place. My PSU is an XFX TS 550, so that shouldn't be a problem. I also heard that FO4 likes its CPUs

Don't hate the reviewer when the game performance is broken, what if they benchmarked it around Diamond City or somewhere with huge drawcalls?

Even my 290x can get over 60FPS average if i benchmark it before getting out of the vault.

Point is they lie about the numbers. They exaggerate the AMD fps and nerf the Nvidia. The OP is having trouble with fps, we all are. By showing bull shit like this you'll have them thinking something is wrong with their system.

Cut that shit out.

i have a 390 and have no problems with fps in fallout 4 ultra settings 1080p 60fps. but honestly fallout 4 sucks to me its a over rated piece of crap game in all honesty.

nvideo nerfs thier own gpus with new driver updates, look at 780ti benches from a couple years ago in the same games as now. just like how they will nerf the 980ti when they come out with something newer.

This got out of hand quickly. I tried to see if I could replicate the problem by switching back to nvidia and that's not the case. I know for sure that it's not my psu since I know for a fact that this 380 is more efficient than my old ass 760. I got into the game andy frames came back up to an avg of 55. So aside from some of the negative attitudes towards team Green and Red, what are some SOLUTIONS to my problem if any? Or is my team red card just fucked in this game?

Nvidia card is better in this game because of their lower driver overhead but 380 should not perform that poorly. Have you try disabling the in-game Vsync?

Try use the Custom Launcher from NexusMod to disable engine Vsync and cap the frame rate to 60 or higher like 75/90.

380 use similar power consumption to 760 iirc while performing better, not 50% better btw.

I see the GPU usage is all over the place. This was in the middle of a firefight under rainfall and my fps was all over the place as well. Could this really be as easy as disabling Vsync?

What are all your settings, both in the Fallout 4 launcher and Crimson.

But first make sure Godrays is completely off and that the shadow distance is set to medium.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

You have a habit of asking for videos of gameplay using graphics cards I don't own lol. Unless you want me to run my 980ti through that? My games beyond modded though, and most of it is ini hacks. I have issues keeping 60fps in places, not because of my 980ti but that my RAM and 4790k bottleneck it.

Fallout 4 is optimized for shit, probably the hardest game in existence to run. Only way to combat the problem is settings.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I've set everything to the lowest it will go, so medium for somethings and low for others.

OK guys, so I benchmarked the card in some other games. ALL AT 1080p

Tomb Raider(2013) FXAA ULTRA

TressFx [On] Off

Avg fps 58

Tress Fx On [Off] FXAA ULTRA

Avg fps 78

Tress Fx On [Off] SSAA 2x Ultra

Avg fps 68

Tress Fx On [Off] SSAA 4x Ultra

Avg fps 52

Shadow of Mordor FXAA Ultra

AVG fps 58

I'm on mobile right now so I can't link the MSI Afterburner gpu usage but for these benchmarks it was mostly 100% usage and not bouncing up and down.

Your benchmark looks normal but those games is GPU limited and Fallout 4 is CPU limited.

Things to try,

1. Disable ULPS

2. Disable Vsync + don't cap the frame (If your FPS didn't go over 60 mean Vsync is still enable)

3. Download ClockBlocker and set it to Block for Fallout 4. (http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=404465)
4. Reset Crimson/Catalyst Control Panel to factory default.
5. Backup your save game and create a new game.

6. Reduce/tighten your RAM timing.

If you can turn Godrays off in the ini files. That pixilation around everything in Rays will go away, more for looks than performance.

What's your CPU usage. One thing to do is find a problem spot and make a save. Now use that save to try settings and possible fixes. If your CPU usage is over 70% in that spot that's one of the problems.

Another common issue with Fallout 4 is RAM speed. Fallout 4 will reward and increase in speed with fps all the way up to 3000mhz on the system ram. If you can overclock your do so and use that save spot to test improvements.

Keep us up to date and give us as much information as possible. I run a 4790k and a 980ti and I can't run ultra settings in every location and keep 60fps in 1080p. Fallout 4 is a pain. But it's worth the trouble IMO.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
