Hi all,

Computer: i5 3570K stock clocks

sapphire r9 290 tri-x

Asrock z77 extreme 4

custom watercooling loop (cpu only)

2x4gb gskill ripjaws x 1600Hz

xfx 650w power supply

Basically my computer has been runnning perfectly for the past 4 years or so, I then upgraded to a custom watercooling loop and now it won't boot with the graphics card installed. I take the card out of the system and it boots like normal.

When the card is in the fans spin up normally on it but the board gets stuck at error code 62 "Error code 62: Installation of the South Bridge Runtime Services".

I've installed a fresh copy of windows, tried different pci slots, tried moving ram around, tried different power supply cables, clearing cmos, even removed the motherboard battery. It all still gets stuck at error code 62

The only thing I can think is that the card is bust or that my power supply has run out of juice or something when I put the card in.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Well have you tired running off your motheboard (Integrated gpu). Have you tired a different PCEI slot perhaps.

Yep, sorry it works perfectly with no graphics card installed. I tried the other PCEI slot and it came up with the same error code :(

I don't have another gpu unfortunately.

maybe not enough power,

As running custom water cooling will drain lotsa juice

650 is fine for the 290X I believe.

did this problem start after you put in the custom loop?

650 W is plenty, but the power supply could be faulty.

Can you test with a different PSU?

I had a feeling that it might have something to do with the power supply, I don't have another to test at the moment but I will go down to my local store and see if they have a spare I can use to test it.

It ran perfectly up until the custom loop, so hopefully it is just the power supply.

Do power supplies degrade over time? It is rather old

I'll test tomorrow and update

P.s. no LED strips ;)

Anything that could of drawn a bunch of power that was put in at the time of the custom loop

Could be something shorting out, is your radiator touching your usb hubs on the motherboard? Happened to me yesterday.

It's definitely set to pcie

The radiator is top mounted with a big offset so I don't think so, also then wouldn't it still short whether the graphics card is in or not?
