Getting very old Windows operating systems

I want to get hold of older Windows operating systems like Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows NT.

Surely nowadays it would be possible to source such operating systems for free, but when I start delving into research it seems like there's bugger-all information.

So the question is, is it even possible to get these things without downloading bonus virus software from shady websites in the process?

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO ASK 'WHY': For old project computers that don't have enough resources to run newer versions of Windows.

Buy old copies on ebay.  I wouldn't just download ISO's, most of them are filled with garbage.  I actually ripped a copy of Windows XP I had lying around so that I could use it in a VM.

Sorry, we cannot speak of pirating here. Even if it is abandonware.

Who says he needs to pirate?

Downloading an ISO of windows off a website is pirating. I am not saying I am for or against downloading ISO of something you already own, I am saying it is pirating.

Even so, he might get it cheap from somewhere?

I raided the old install disks of Windows and Office from the place I work at.

Now I have Windows 2000 Small Business Server and lots of OEM HP install disks of XP.

I was throwing them out, they were not needed.

free, and uses basically no resources to run

have an 01 windows laptop running it and it works perfectly

Can't you download a Windows 10 ISO off the Microsoft website?

They are not Open Source. Open Source also doesn't mean it is free.

True. Kinda hard to buy this stuff legit though, so it's sort of a no-go either way it seems.

Linux is the easy way out, I'm not looking for a user friendly OS.

I can, but it won't necessarily run on a 233MHz Pentium 2.

I was not recommending you to lol, I was just stating that downloading an ISO does not mean you are doing something illegal.

If you want it legit you'll either need to hit up eBay/Kijiji/Craigslist, or get an MSDN subscription: https://www.visualstudio.com/products/subscriber-benefits-vs

I didn't say he needed to download an ISO.  I was suggesting that he buy an old copy off of ebay, and then rip it to ISO using dd in linux.
