http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/features/1917-what-the-difference-between-ethernet-cables/

Cat 5 cables can only transfer upto 100Mb/s (rated) and cat 6 can transfer upto 10Gb/s

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Is there much of a difference between the two?

Need a 5' and 10'

Thanks

Unless you need 10gbps for short runs the CAT5e is enough for most, If it's only a little more though for CAT6 I would go for CAT6 due to the extra thickness of the insulation and shielding, making the cable just a little more durable.

It looks like it will be CAT 6 then.

Anything else i need to know about CAT 6?

Getting two 10's for under $15USD, seems reasonable.

Not really. It's backwards compatible with Cat5e equipment, and I'm assuming you're not using 10GbE networking equipment, so there's nothing special you need.

2) would a shorter length to my main rig be better?

Also here is my internet speeds

1) Cables are cables for the most part. Brand doesn't matter. Just don't cheap out entirely, or you might find you actually get a Cat5e cable. The main thing you get with spending a little more on the cable is good quality RJ45 connectors. The little tabs can break very quickly on cheap ones.

2) Technically, yes. However, unless you're doing super long runs (100m+), it doesn't matter.

Monoprice sells them at bare minimum pricing, that one is also not shielded cabling, I've bough from prime cables which is the Canadian version of Monoprice and they've all worked great for me.
