I have a msi z97 PC mate motherboard and a intel i5 4690k.

My problem is this: When I go into my bios it does not let me change any numbers for my CPU, the only thing it allows me to do is use OC Genie which locks my overclock at 4Ghz. If anyone could help out that would be great

If you can't change the multiplier or voltage... Then it isn't a 4690k. Show us a screenshot of cpuz, and don't use oc genie. Don't use any auto overclocking software, none.

Use the numpad or press + or - to change values.

Bios can be a bit finicky at times. Are the options greyed out or are they resetting when you try to change them?

If it is the former, update the bios, if it is the latter, change how you are inputting the values.

For example, my bios resets the values when I delete what is in the field before entering in what I want to put in, so I have to just type in the field without deleting anything.

You can also try the + and - keys as wooden suggested.

Edit: since oc genie is going to 4.0ghz I'm inclined to believe that the bios needs updating. When I had an a10 on an msi mobo, oc genie did the same thing, I updated the bios and it recognized what my cpu actually was and gave me 4.2. For the record, I didn't use oc genie 24/7, just for a baseline.

Try intel xtu. most msi boards require the use of the + key on the numpad to change values though

I'm the type that doesn't update bios unless it is needed. Updating the bios can be risky if you don't do it right. So treat it as a last resort.

what is your bios version that you have. It will be listed on the bios screen somewhere. Let's find out if the bios is the problem first.

hey guys i also have the same problem with the same motherboard but i have i7 4790k..

and when i enable the oc genie i get overclock to 4.4ghz automatically but once i disable it, it goes back to 4ghz stock and boost 4ghz(suppose to be 4.4ghz boost on i7 4790k ) but the oc genie somehow screwed up my intel boost. so i need help on how to manually overclock on the msi z97 pc mate and how to restore cpu boost to 4.4ghz (i7 4790k stock boost) instead of capped to 4ghz. for some reason it capps to 38 instead of 40 as you can see on the multiplier it says 8 - 38(8 cores 3800mhz)

OC genie is capped at 4GHz for the 4690k. If you want a higher OC you will have to do it manually. First disable OC genie and then put manually the cpu ratio and the voltage needed.

You may need to use Shift+ in order to change values up.

@PCBEGINNER When you use OC Genie it changes the power settings. You will need to go and change them back manually. It wont do it automatically when you turn it off

yes i know what you mean like it disable intel boost clock and all that, but once i return it to default optimized, it should have fix that and i did see that it turns on the intel boost and all the other things that oc genie disabled..
