I just built a PC for the first time ever, and I got it to post after a lot of unsuccessful attempts. What I now need help with is my bios. My system specs are:

    -intel core i7 - 4790k

    -asus z-97 a motherboard

    - samsung 850 evo 500gb ssd

    - hyperx 16gb ddr3 ram

    - msi gtx970

I have no idea how to work with the bios, I've seen a few build guides from linus, but many of the parts differ and I was told that the setting could vary from system to system.

I am mainly going to be using this rig for gaming and programming (on linux) for my major. Is there any video suggestions that are close to my build, or can someone here help with the settings?

Thank you,

Prady

Well, what exactly do you want to do in the bios?

If you're overclocking (which I'd assume you would be from those specs) check out an overclocking guide from Linus. It's just a matter of finding where specific settings like voltages and all are on your bios. You can google that sort of thing, or just look around (they're all labeled)

Also, follow your topics :)

So my Sata mode should be on AHCI? and how do I set up the ssd settings?

you shouldn't need to do anything in the bios except change the boot device

and don't overclock right away...wait a while to be sure the system is stable

only thing you probably wanna do is update the bios

If you need remote help fixing something on your computer

I can help over Teamviewer if you wish

just msg me on my profile

ACHI is on by default on modern (Haswell->) mobos. SSDs don't need anything more. Trim is OS settings and default on with Win7->. You really only need to check that boot order is correct.

If you want to learn more, google settings you don't understand. Mobo manual gives brief explanation on most of settings.
