As the title says, has anyone used or read about anyone using EK pastel? Is it good?

Aparently, it made in collaboration with Mayhem, but that's all I know.

I'm pretty sure it's a direct Mayhem's Pastel re-brand, I use Mayhem's Pastel Blue in my build here. I've had no issues in the ~6 months of using the stuff.

Mayhems makes Pastel fluid themselves, the original developer of it was Ice Dragons and EK is a distributor of Mayhems Pastel. For Mayhems fluids it's some of the best fluid out there currently. There have been some issues with the fluids and discussion on fading, and color loss over time but not everyone has experienced that.

Personally I use the Ice white without any problems for about 6 months now, the PH is still within acceptable values last time I tested.

On topic with that... Has anyone you know reported issues with PETG and clear EKoolant (which by the same logic I assume is Mayhem X1 or similar). I know it's up to 15% Ethylene Glycol and officially primochill calls that a huge no-no with PETG, but last I heard it was really a synergistic dye issue.

It was mentioned here where Mayhems pastel and X1 are glycerol based where the XT-1 is glycol based which shouldn't be used with PETG since it is not resistant to glycols.

In EKWB's clear or EVO fluids they use Ethanediol making up 80-90% of a the fluid which is the same as Ethylene Glycol, not good for PETG.

I'm thinking of using EK pastel in white with XSPC PETG tubing, is this a bad idea?

That shouldn't be an issue the Pastel is glycerol based so it shouldn't affect the PETG material like glycol coolants. Just make sure to really clean the rads and parts of the loop to ensure no contaminates before assembling and filling the loop.

What was the reason that J2C system changed colour? Didn't want to read all 5 pages.

Was it because he didn't clean his rads out properly?

It's about 10% when diluted but good to know... Sigh...

Anyways so the EVO fluid is XT-1.

That is exceedingly frustrating... I wish EK said something about it on their page, but I guess it's time to drain my loop again...

Yeah at times you need to dig into things a fair bit to find the little details on it, being diluted will be better but overtime it can still degrade the PETG tubing. I'm not sure exactly if Mayhems directly makes EK Evo fluid however or if it is something EK still blends themselves.

Yea... Comparing the two concentrate msds forms, they are as similar as the forms allow describing. Since mayhems makes the pastel, I'd assume they also make this one.

I had actually asked about ekoolant issues a few weeks ago but I guess it didn't click with me that the primochill warning mattered (esp when eks petg doesn't list the same warning.)

I bought some x-1 just now.Fucking this stuff up isn't cheap lol.

Hopefully no lasting damage was done. I feel it's unlikely, but better now that running the stuff at temperature gaming and watching it fall apart a month down the line.

I believe it would need to be fairly concentrated so you should be good, if you notice the interior of the tubing to become foggy or it's soft like the plastic material has been melted like if you were to put acetone on plastic then it may have been affected.

Jay's loop is a bit of an oddity, the only guess I could make was that he used tygon tubing cause his soft tube during the breakdown turned green and foggy which occurs with the pastel and tygon, that could have been a contributor with possibly the composition of the copper in the rads as he was suspecting. He did acid etch and clean the rads IIRC so that should have removed any contaminates left in it.

he didn't use tygon soft tubing in the lower compartment. He says so in one or two of the following vids.
