Difference between 10-20Mbps Ping?

Hello folks, I have shitty internet in my city ( non-fiber ), I will be using the higher one for my stream and the other one for games... but the thing Is, should I go with another 20Mbps or just stick with the 10Mbps? Will my ping be better in games if the internet is a bit faster? or It'll be only faster for downloads? Please, Ha;lp

Moved to Networking.

Your ping is also dependent on the server location.

Depends if other people in your house are using internet. If they aren't your ping would stay the same. But that speed would be too slow for livestreaming anyway (assuming your upload is slower than download)

The bandwidth has no direct impact on your ping. The amount of hops and physical distance from the server will affect ping. I would still go with the 20Mbps plan though. You may find you get priority over cheaper plans from your ISP.

quick sidenote: what does fiber have to do with anything? i get a stabile 200/12 connection over a rusty coax cable.

the only way your speed will decrease ping is when your connection cannot allocate the speed the protocol needs (which is much, much lower than 10Mbps)

I was asking if there is difference between 10mbps and 20mbps , same company , same computer same everything. FOR GAMES, not download. I don't want to pay a lot more extra cause I already pay for one line, the 10mbps will be my second one.

The ping is not better if you get higher bandwidth. Ping solely depends on how far your house is from the next networking station from the ISP and from there how far the server is away.

No copper cable will do 200/12, usually these speeds are achieved if the connection from the house to the cable connecting the different houses is copper but from there on fiber. This is also why they do not achieve higher upload speeds (fiber could easily do 200/200 if the "last piece" of cable (from the cable connecting the houses to your house) is also fiber.)

they do coax to the home almost everywhere, and the reason my upload is that low, well.. thats a belgian thing, its just like that here.

what my ISP does is tap into the older coax lines for the "last mile" (they were very smart with implementing some REALLY nice coax back in the day) and if i decided i'd want to pay more, i'd get my upload speed higher tomorrow. the higher upload speeds are mostly just for buisiness connections.

their structure is a large, high bandwidth token ring around the country, with smaller token rings for local areas (both of these fiber) and from there on its a mixture between coax and fiber depending on distance, and which places have been upgraded already.

meanwhile the other big isp in the area is going over twisted pair, that being the same twisted pair they used to send dial-up over, and yeah, thats defenately a disaster.

EDIT: should add that their upgrade plan is looking beyond gigabit, so they can repeat the 20 year infrastructure their last mile coax has been for them.

Objective it would make 0 difference on ping. Subjectively speaking it will make things better by allowing more traffic to get through without being queued, dropped, or rate limited.

If multiple people are using the service adding bandwidth is typically a good idea.
