Unusually low FPS in GTA V with GTX 970

ZacDaMan72

Hi,

I got a new GTX 970 and it's been running GTA V with an average of 60fps on a mixture of high and very high (including long shadows) but now I'm forced to play on the lowest settings to get the same performance. On high settings (using 2.6gb vram) I get on average 40fps which hurts my fucking eyes so yeah. Nothing has changed as far as I know, resetting my overclock hasn't done anything either and there weren't any artifacts to begin with. Can someone please advise me on steps to troubleshoot and fix this?

Have you perhaps turned on anti-aliasing?

Possibly this, my 770 died when io put AA on, then i turned it down and got 60ish+ fps.

Always had it on 2X TXAA, turning it off did nothing to me. I'm currently running the Fire Strike demo to see if it's my game or the card that's wrong.

Just did Fire Strike 1.1 and got a very unusual score of 4756. Should be at least 9000 right?

DDU then reinstall drivers might fix your problem. Also have you tried restarting?

I'm going to install the 350.12 driver to see if it's because of the latest driver, but I've been running 361.43 completely fine. I have to restart anyways after installing the driver so I'll keep everyone posted.

WOW - seems to be a driver issue. Reverted back to 350.12 and now I haven't even finished fire strike but it's actually running way better, will update this post with the score.

EDIT: The score is 9457!

I seem to have fixed it, I'll run GTA on my usual settings and get back to you on how things are. Have you overclocked your card?

This happened to me, too. Last night I was getting 70-100 FPS. Now, I barely get 30.

I've fixed it. Try using the 350.12 driver (one launched with GTA V) or one down from the latest.

Use these settings (looks almost like fully maxed) to get a solid 60fps, I only get occasional drops to around 55fps, it's normally in the mid 60s to 80fps.

FXAA - Off

MSAA - X2

TXAA - On

VSync - On/off up to you

Population Density/Variety - Max

Distance Scaling  - Max

Texture Quality - Very High

Shader Quality - Very High

Reflection Quality - Ultra

Reflection MSAA - X2

Water Quality - Very High

Particles Quality - High

Grass Quality - High

Soft Shadows - NVIDIA PCSS

Post FX - Very High

Anisotropic Filtering - X16

AO - High

Tessellation - Very High

Long Shadows - On

With an overclock I'd expect to get particles or grass on Very High.

Do you put your computer to sleep? Because sometimes if I OC my GPU too far, it tends to 'shutdown' and doesn't perform close to what it should be doing. So I recommend turning on and off your PC

38fps when driving at the airport, 52 when standing still. 70 when punching civilians. 10/10 would punch civilians again
