Ditched my initial plan of buying a i3 Skylake build for 1080p gaming and opted for the standard i5-4460 build. Any suggestions/comments? :)

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/V97T6h
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/V97T6h/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($174.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($67.89 @ OutletPC)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($34.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 290X 4GB TWIN FROZR Video Card  ($529.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Fractal Design Define S w/Window ATX Mid Tower Case  ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $897.75

Note: The 290x is locally available for about $300. Would it be better if I bought that instead of a 390 costing about $15 more?

EDIT
I already have an old SSD and seasonic m12ii-520 evo FM :) partpicker didnt have that

290X 4GB performs a bit better than a 390 but the 8GB version of the 290X is better just because of the extra 4GB of VRAM :P Also, what are you going to be powering it with? Your hopes and dreams?

No storage?

I'd also consider getting a cooler, like the 212 EVO. You can use the stock Intel cooler, it'll just look a bit ugly in that windowed case.

You also have a motherboard with blue accents, and a video card with red accents. It'll clash, if you care about that kind of thing.

It Depends, most times the 390 beats the 290x. Also they optimized the tessellation of the 390.

When people say the 290 is the same as 390. Pfff

Ok fine, they come close. And because of that and the price difference between the @op's two choices, I vote 390.

1) extra fans won't be enough to cool the 290x

2) 520w is not enough for a 290x or 390. you need 620w minimum

3) cm n200 is not great for liquid cooling

4) b85 is fine. h97 if you want to spend more money. asus, msi, asrock, gigabyte all good choices

might be voltage locked. not sure though. google it. voltage locked cards don't overclock well.

voltage is not locked for the MSI one.

I saw over the forums that if clock for clock (whatever this means), the 290x works just as well as 390x. But given that I dont know yet how to overclock, might as well get the 390 and save me the time and effort to overclock my rig when gaming, right? or nah?

Well yes, its the same chip of course its going to be the same. But the 290x is not optimized and is rather inefficient and gets rather hot. The main limitation of OC is the heat. Thats why people with custom water-loops can get massive overclocks.

Assuming that my build is well ventilated, would you recommend the 290x in place of the 390? (Disregard overclocking in this scenario)  :)
