1440 IPS some questions

Wingfan
Go to solution Solved by Lord_Karango17,

I was worried about my GPU, but will i still have a better experience than this 1080 120Hz?

Is it because i only have 4GB?

I wont be able to buy a new GPU until next fall.

The vram is not the issue. My card only has 3gb, and I dont face too many issues with that filling up at 1440p.

Its just that 1440p has enarly twice the amount of pixels of 1080p, so when you do that math it will be very hard to reach 1440p 144hz even if you were able to reach 1080p 144hz.

The 290x is slightly lower than my card, and I do not have any issues staying at a constant 60 fps in most games. If I disable vsync, the fps rarely goes over 80 though, so you start seeing the problem.

In games like gta 5, BF4, etc, you will likely have to reduce the AA to fxaa, and lower demanding settings like shadows, and ambient occlusion to get 1440p with a fps that would better utilize that monitor.

Ive been looking at the ASUS MG279Q. But the lowerest ive seen it was $579USD, thats a lot of money and i wouldnt be able to upgrade my GPU until Fall.

Few questions:

Do I really need the 144Hz ?

How about the Freesync? I do have an AMD GPU, but is it worth it?

Any thoughts and/or suggestions on something that is comparable and maybe cheaper for the same performance

Thanks

My rig ( should be able to handle it )

Sync is nice. For games where you run at low FPS. At 144fps it's not needed. But then not all games are easy to run.

144Hz is nice if you play CS:GO or Cod or Battlefield.

144hz is if you are currently running your games at 140 fps, if you arent running them much above 60 than 60hz is enough and sync is awesome(only know of gsync which i have but its supposed to do the same thing)

honestly unless you're playing competitive first person shooters you wont fully utilize the 144Hz, also unless you have a card that can get most games up there then don't really waste your money

Early 2020 Build : Intel i7 8700k // MSI Krait Z370 // Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Aorus 5700 XT // NZXT H500

Early 2019 Build : Ryzen 2600X // Asus Tuff X470 // G.Skill Trident Z RGB 8x2 16GB // MSI RTX 2070 // NZXT H500

Late 2017 Build : Intel i7 8700k // Asus Prime Z370-A // G.Skill Trident Z 8x2 16GB // EVGA GTX 1080 Ti  // NZXT S320 Elite

Late 2015 Build : Intel i7 6700k // Asus Maximus VI Gene Z170 //  Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Gigabyte GTX 970 // Corsair Air 240

Well I have seen very little difference between using v-sync and freesync except the performence diffrence without v-sync. The 144hz is definitely worth it even if you don't play competitively and the 1440p is great.

It is definitely not needed, but a nice thing to have. It may improve your aim in competitive shooters like cs, but that is about it.

You also wont see the full benefit if you are not running 144fps or above in most of your games. While the 290x is a good card, it will struggle to reach those framerates at 1440p unless you turn down the settings (varies from game to game).

I used to have a 144hz 1080p monitor, as once I upgraded to my current 1440p 60hz monitor, it did leave a sour taste in the mouth, however you can get used to it.

My next monitor upgrade will most definitely be a high refresh rate ips gsync panel, but I'm just waiting for more resonable prices...

I dont play cs:go or many FPS. Lately its been Battlefron Squadron Assault, CIV 5, some GTA V and Ashes of the Singularity.

Can you recommend a 1440 IPS that would be good for my setup?

144hz or 60hz? That choice will have a large impact on the price of the monitor.

I sthere any 120Hz choices?

Do you think a 60Hz would be good enough for what i have? it just seems so low to me.

If you have not used high refresh rate monitors, and are fine with 60hz, then you might as well stick with the more cost effective option.

I personally want to upgrade because I used to have a high refresh rate monitor, and want both 1440p and 144hz now.

Also since you will not only have to pay extra for the monitor, but also for a better gpu, the price will stack up quick.

Yep,  but a monitor will last me a llt longer than a GPU, at least 3-4 upgrades
