The titles are screwed up, but gaming wise the i5 and 390x will out perform.

In general/editing, obv i7/390.

i7, because in reality, I am going to assume you won't throw out the PC before upgrading.
Strong CPU over Strong GPU

You might save $100 now, but later on that i7 will still cost $250-300 and you will lose $300 whilst the GPU, now will be slower (though forgiveably so.) will be replaced by something vastly superior in every aspect possible if you don't throw out the PC before an upgrade.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

the performance increase from 390 to 390x is not a lot. so 390 is good and i7 over i5 is becuz if u gonna do streaming later on or any production type stuff then u will be fine. Also when dx12 games come out u will benefit from the hyperthread from i7. You dont upgrade ur cpu as often as gpu so go with i7. Also some games use more cores so i7 is good.

in reality you can trade gpu more easier than cpu. so if u think u can trade the cpu and it work with ur mobo then gl

Also what stated above by Weak1ings
