Will this build run 3440 x 1440 @100fps

JayLaw

Hello, looking to build something like this  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ws4tMp  and was wondering if the Acer Predator X34 is going to run under 60fps with current hardware options. The idea is to have a ultrawide monitor like this one to run games near its 100hz but will it even?

Welcome to the Forum!

It all depends on the game and settings you've set. I might want to go with a second 980Ti but that's entirely me and I'm not sure whether it's necessary.

You can probably run around what you want with highish settings on recent games and Ultra on any older games.

Sig under construction.

A single 980Ti isn't powerful enough to even get a stable 60FPS at that resolution with max settings in games like Witcher 3 for example.

If you want stable 100FPS even under high settings you should get two GTX 980Tis.

Btw.: Nice overpriced build. ;)

This will perform so much better than the one you've got. Your storage solution was overkill, as was your PSU. Two 980Tis will get the 100FPS you're looking for. Unfortunately, a 6700K and SLI 980Tis are out of the question when it comes to the budget so I decided to go for a 4790K instead. Alternatively, you can a i5 6600K and upgrade further down the round to a i7. Gaming performs isn't going to matter much between the i5 and i7 unless you're playing something like ARMA. You should prioritise the GPUs. Tell me what you think:

I'm sure the i5 will be a bottleneck for two GTX 980Tis.

Other than that I agree with your build.

Are you sure? A 4690K barely bottlenecks two SLI 980Tis. A i5 6600K won't either.

Oh it does.

My 4670 is a bottleneck for my two GTX 980s (non-TI). Some guy here on the forum achieves higher FPS with two GTX 970s and an i7.

I know and I'm not here to convince you, but the more I looked into it the more I believe it is true.

Have a look here at this article by PCP: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Systems/Quad-Core-Gaming-Roundup-How-Much-CPU-Do-You-Really-Need

It doesn't really tackle the problem I'm facing, where I think i5s are actually a bottleneck, but it definitly made me ineterested in it.

Until I don't have my test system ready I cannot prove if an i5 is actually a bottleneck. So we'll see...

Fair enough, although I can't share the same view since I as well haven't seen it put into that scenario. Perhaps the Skylake i5 6600K might be different from its Haswell relatives...

The Skylake i5 is different - obviously - and has compared to Haswell quite a bit more power behind it, but I still don't think that this is enough to not be a bottleneck for two GTX 980Tis.

Jay from the YT-channel JayzTwoCents once said that even his overclocked 5960X is becoming the bottleneck for his three Titan Xs.
