Intel motherboard component compatibility in general

Hello

 

Are Intel motherboards compatible with just as many things as AMD motherboards? I've been having this thought running in my head for a while after my family said that they had problems with Intel motherboards in the past and I was thinking; Did they check the compatibility list to make sure they work right the first time? What do you guys think?

This all happened way back in the mid-2000's (the Core 2 Duo and Pentium 4 days). I was much younger back then. Also referring to SATA/PATA devices mostly.

It depends on the chipset in question TBH. Sata support is about the same, and with PATA devices your better off with a PCIe/PCI PATA RAID card.

True. But they said to me when we were talking two days ago when my mom said she had hard drives crash and shit. They also say that AMD is the same in terms of performance compared to Intel, which I disagree with. Let's not get into the whole AMD/Intel rage.

I would compare the supported technologies of the cpus not the motherboards, because motherboard features differ so highly based on price and what the manufacture was going for.

As long as its DDR3 for example, it will work with either manufacturers DDR3 compatible motherboards. If its SATA, it will work with any SATA capable motherboard. As for performance, AMD has lead or equaled Intel in multithreaded from about 2010 until around 2012-2013, while trailing by a significant amount single threaded from at least 2010 until the present-albeit always at a lower price point (except the early days of the FX9590, $999 for the infernal CPU at launch).

Probably-what was the exact problem they were having? Also if they were actual Intel motherboards-not those made by other manufacturers, I'd actually expect them to outlast all others.

They said they were having hard drive crashes as far as I can remember. I'm not sure if they had other things that had to with the CPU, again, I don't quite remember off the top of my head. But yeah it can be that the motherboard they were going for wasn't from an actual retail version, but an OEM. I remember having an old MSI prebuilt that we have gotten rid of when we moved, which was when Windows XP was a thing.

Ah that could be the culprit. My mom has a Samsung 1TB 7200 RPM Hard drive that works still and it's 3 years old and still running. She has also recently built a new system, which BTW, is just about the same as my brother's, but with a better motherboard, different case, and a LEPA power supply.
