I was wondering if the so called "Silent pc cases" like the Define R5 actually make a noticeable difference in noise reduction, because I really want to make my pc quieter. So if anyone have some experience with them I would love to here what you think  :)

very little

buying a quiet GPU and quiet case fans makes a far bigger difference

a loud PC in a silent case is still a loud PC

well it will dumpen your cpu fan noises and your gpu noise a little. but as far as intake and exhaust fans, theres no difference because that cant be dumpened. but idle wise, yes theres a noticable difference in noise. but under load, nope not really.

@PSU any idle-no fan mode psu will do fine, corsair/ evga offers this as far as i know. (never had another make of psu models) :P

you could swap your HDD and get some SSD they dont have any moving parts

"silent" gpu's are nice too ( my 980TI only spins the fans if temps go >60°C )

and even some PSU have some coiling noise             try EVGA GS  or some bequiet

i got an SilentBase 600 and the only things i hear are the aio fans and my HDD's.... soon i'll swap the fans

someone on this forum had a pc with many big passiv cooling blocks so it was silent, he had build logs               i dont remember the name

I saw that too, but that whole project was a LOT of work and there was a lot of preperation needed, I would never do it, just because most GPU now come with silent mode

to game or not to game, that`s the question

Try to figure out the source of your ambient noise.

If it is the PSU, replace it, you already did the case fans which are usually offenders

I easily get annoyed with noises like coil whine and that, and a "silent" case takes care of high-pitch noises like that, but at the cost of "adding pressure" on the overall fan noise. The fans have a deeper tone which is more easy to notice in a case with sound dampening.

My take on this: Get whatever looks good to you, and add quiet components. I fully regret going with the R5 and should've gotten the Enthoo Luxe. Slap an AIO or a high performance air cooler on the CPU, get a power efficient and/or quiet graphics card, and you've pretty much got the quietest system around. My HDD is louder than all of the fans, even at load.

I have the RM750 and have had the EVGA G2. The RM750 was quieter, as the G2 had a more aggressive fan curve, even in ECO mode. I can do nothing but recommend the RM/RMi/RMx lineup

What about Evga Supernova 750 g2 or the Corsair rm 750i ? :)

As an owner of the Supernova 750 G2, I have nothing but good things to say about it.  The fan rarely even turns on because my system doesn't need near its full power.  If you're planning Xfire or SLI two power-hundry GPUs I'd consider going to a higher wattage so that you don't stress the PSU too much, and therefore make the fan spin too high.

As for silent cases, in my opinion silence is best achieved by getting a case with plenty of airflow, anti-vibration mounts for any moving parts (e.g. HDDs) and getting the right fan setup.  For example, my system was noisy with the CM fan that came with my Hyper 212+.  But as soon as I slapped a Noctua on there, noise really decreased.  Also, a large number of good fans running slowly - and practically inaudibly - will push just as much air as a small number of fans running quickly.

As for the Define R5, I love the aesthetics of the case, but if you watch the Hardware Canucks review, Dmitry does find some issues with it (e.g. as soon you use one of the fan placements covered by the moduvents, the internal noise has a place to escape).

But if I were to get a new case since my current case does have some annoying vibration sounds. Could anyone recommend a not to expensive ATX case ? :)

The one I'm considering myself right now is the Enthoo Pro M.  I like the front ventilation and conservative styling. There's also the big brother Enthoo Pro which is $15-$20 more expensive and very well reviewed.

And don't get me wrong, the Define R4 and R5 are great cases, and a lot of people are extremely happy with them.  As long as you don't use the top or side fan mounts they'll be practically silent.
