Malwarebytes

Go to solution Solved by Sauron,

Will it honor my old key? Because I dont have a copy of it I am afraid that if I dont use auto-update and install from downloaded installer it will become free version.

Ah, then probably no, you'll need to buy it again. That's why it didn't update. If you're still in the period supported by your key, keep that version as it will still be updated and effective. If you have a lifetime key then it should work in the new version too.

I dont install any other AV. I only entrust my PC with Malwarebytes. I checked malwarebytes because I want it for my new PC but it seems that they changed everything.

Is it still like the old reliable Malwarebytes? I still have the 1.something version on my old PC. Should I upgrade it to 2.2?

EDIT:

I updated the old malwarebytes on my old PC and now it says it's updated but it's still version 1.7 is that okay? Or there will be difference in performance?

Latest version is 2.2

Malwarebytes is still good, but it is NOT an anti-virus. Ideally you should pair it with an anti-virus.

but but

avast wont protect me

and the torrented version of kapersky that i have IS  a virus!?!?/1/1

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

Yea it's not but I dont trust anti viruses. They cant detect what Malwarebytes can. :(

For me other AVs are just scams. Lol

They detect different things because they serve different purposes. There are things and anti-virus will catch that malwarebytes won't.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

AVs only detect the older stuff like certain Trojans and the like. anti malware detects the newer stuff. I think linus made a tech quickie on it

The smartest idiot you will ever find

Its more or less the same, but they changed the UI a lot and took some features out of the free version. Having the latest version of an AV program is always a better choice.

the current version is 2.2.0, download it from their website if it doesn't update automatically.

I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Premium. Works the BEST for me and is straightforward without those fancy useless features.

Windows Defender will suffice, it's just as good as many others that cost money.

It should actually honor your old key. They updated their licencing, and if you had a key that was valid previously, it generates a new key, and lets you know that you have been given generosity of a new year's worth of a key (at least this happened to me).

Also, Malwarebytes is greatly respected. Their DB is massive, and they certainty have just about everything a typical virus scanner might find, plus they work on zero-day detection. Malwarebytes is more of a zero-day detection system than an antivirus/anti-malware.

At my previous job, we had to analyze systems with stupid Microsoft SCEP, but instead we would secretly run a malwarebytes scan on top of it. It wasn't actually in the policies, but it was understood to be unbelievably more effective at actually detecting anything. (Plus you need volume licensing from Mbytes to legally be able to do this, which they currently didn't have, but were thinking about it).
