Windows 10 micro stutters / lock ups

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Could you elaborate on why it's so essential to do this seeing as I'm actively trying to avoid re-installing Windows on this machine for the third time. If I have simply cloned the drive what difference would it make to fresh install? Also thanks for the reply if it is necessary I'll go through the re-install route I'm just trying to avoid the agro and time it needs as I need this machine to build websites/C# apps etc

because cloning makes mistakes, and if one single bit is flipped, it can either cause no harm, or it can cause problems in the future, or it can completely corrupt windows

usually its #2 that i see happen most often

a fresh install writes everything from scratch

this prevents any previous windows issues from being copied over as well

Hi Everyone!,

A while ago the hard drive crapped out on my laptop so I was using a placeholder spare I had for a while until my nice new SSDs to show up. I used Macrium Reflect to clone the drive over for this laptop and did my desktop while I was at it. The desktop is running Windows 7 and is running nice and smooth. However my laptop which is running Windows 10 randomly locks up sometimes momentarily other times for longer, no input works and if I click anything or ctrl+alt+del etc as soon as the laptop starts working again it'll blast through every input I did during that time. I can't see why it's doing it. I've run CHKDSK as admin with the /F flag and no errors were found I've also run a full s.m.a.r.t on the disk and it's at 100% health, you name it I've probably tried it. Could there possibly be anything else I've missed or is this a case of install Windows and all my programs again which I really would like to avoid.

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Right Click Start button and click Command Prompt (Admin) then type SFC /Scannow. Check If you get any errors there might be some corrupt windows files on your PC which Is causing the freezes.

Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner I've been a bit busy running around, I'm just running the SFC command now and see what it brings up. If I can't solve it after this then I'll go for the re-install route. Thanks for taking the time to help me I'll mark this post solved.

Thanks again
