4790k, needs mobo

ok so i was given a new in box 4790k chip & 16gb of ddr3 ram. so i have about $150-200 to spend for a new mobo, any suggestions of boards in this price range.  i currently have an old dell xps 9100 studio, i plan on reusing the case, hd, & gpu (until i can save up a few bucks).  i have to crack the case to make sure i can reuse the psu, otherwise ill have to pick up one of these as well.  any help on a solid board would be great, not really looking to do any over clocking just want it to be solid and let me upgrade the gpu in a few months and hope this system will last a while lol...

Basically any motherboard will work if you don't really plan to overclock or use more than one GPU.

Just look at the better brands; I recommend Asus.

i would like to eventually, but until i can get a new gpu and most likely a new psu, overclocking wont benefit me much as i will be severely bottlenecked due to the gpu, by the way is a GT630, yup its old and has done well so far lol.

i have 2 boards in mind, if anyone has had either of them that can give some guidance as to which board to go with.  please give pros/cons as to why which board if youve had experience with them.

asus board

both are in the price range id like to stay closer to the $150 range in case i need to pickup something else such as a psu or maybe save a few bucks over the next couple of paydays and pickup a new gpu too ;)

I'd suggest an ASUS Z97-P because it offers the Z-chipset and good quality, supports DDR3 RAM and is a pretty reliable board. It's also a little cheaper than what you can spend.

This is an ATX form factor board. Make sure it can fit in that case =)

The board you listed is old, this one is better. Has more USB ports, etc etc.

I'd avoid ASRock. They're not terrible, but they're not as good as Asus; my dad has had to return a few of them.

Hey, Dizmo.

When I build my PC I was asking myself what the Z97 Pro Gamer can do better than the Z97-P if you're using only one gpu.

Do you find any noticeable differences apart from noce paintings?

You can get a Asrock Extreme 4 for that price, saw a good deal the other day! It comes with $50 off the Samsung 850 Evo

There's a few little differences:

  • SATA-Express on the ProGamer
  • Better LAN controller on the ProGamer
  • Better audio on the ProGamer
  • Much improved audio on the ProGamer
  • More fan headers on the ProGamer
  • More included SATA cables with the ProGamer

There's probably a couple I missed but that's most of it.
