Where is the message being displayed? In Chrome/A web browser? If so, try a different one and see if it works then.

Windows has an enterprise edition of several versions of windows. Is yours 7, 8, 10, or...?

Are you changing the DNS settings in your router's config page? (Usually accessed through a web browser)

Check that the setting sticks after a few minutes.

If you change your DNS settings in Windows it will not query the DNS on the router, so there are no changes required there.

Can you post an IPCONFIG /ALL here for your machine? Your IP isn't an APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) right, which always starts with 169.254?

I am curious to see the IP and the DNS settings.

IPv4

Hm, ok...

Try what evrydayzawrkday suggested, post a screenshot of your ipconfig.

Open command prompt (search 'cmd' in windows start menu), and type 'ipconfig /all' (no quotes)

Havin the same problem here and hoping someone here can help. I'm using the suggested DNS (the 8.8.8.8 and the 8.8.4.4). I've tried pinging to Google but it can't find the ping request. My IP isn't an APIPA. Running on Windows 7. Tried both Google chrome and Firefox but no luck. Problem started like 3-4 hours ago. All other devices working fine. Any suggestions?

So you're not getting an IP address from your router. Test wired connection, use other ethernet port on router/switch, other known working cable, test other computers if same problem.

It's getting an IP address from the router and it's set as shown below. And all other computers are working fine with the router. I'll try testing the wired connection and report the results.

Oops. I misread the "isn't APIPA". Either way, once you got a working IP on your network, test if your computers can resolve hostnames. Ping 8.8.8.8 if it gives a response. If it does, ping google.com/linustechtips.com if it gives a response. If it doesn't, check out what's the output of 'nslookup linustechtips.com'. It should tell you what DNS server is responding to your requests.

Those tests should still be applicable to the TS.

There was a response on pinging 8.8.8.8 but pinging google.com/linustechtips resulted in "Ping request could not find host google.com/linustechtips.com. Please check the name and try again." The nslookup resulted in:

***Default servers are not available

Server:Uknown

Address: 127.0.0.1

***Uknkown can't find linustechtips.com:No response from server

Is the address mentioned above the DNS server that's responding?? Or is it something else entirely?

Change back the IP settings to obtain IP from router's DHCP service. flush dns cache using 'ipconfig /flushdns'. Change back to whatever IP settings you have set before. It should reflect what it should after that. If it persists, obtain IP automatically and flush dns again.
