Hi guys! So 2016 is almost here but my PC hasn't realized it yet... My build is this one. ( The power supply isn't exactly that one but pcpartpicker does not have mine listed, it's a 1:life ps:jet 700W). The poor (but good looking) guy is rocking a 2008 CPU and a 2009 mobo... 

 

I can play BF4 on high with around 40-45 fps and other new games at low medium to high settings but the processor falls behind A LOT in more CPU intensive games.

 

I'm currently 16 Years old and in September 2017 I'm moving to college so I won't use this rig too much and i wanted to know your opinion on this. Should I upgrade my CPU and Mobo this year (maybe wait for Zen) or just deal with the fact that my PC is a bit old and stop investing in it because it will stop being used in a while? I will need a new laptop for college too, should I just save money for it? Just give me your opinion!

Its certainly not a bad PC but if it were me I would be looking to do a new build. You could probably keep the PSU (if its a god one) and case though.

Change out the PSU for something quality, change out the CPU for X5460/5470, should serve you a few more years

 

EDIT : If you don't know, those are easily overclockable xeons which should be good once you use the 771 to 775 adapter, it should remove pretty much all bottlenecks and as long as that goes, you should be fine since you are rocking an r9 270x

It is not a cheap PSU, it is pretty decent. Less known I think.

If you can't find it on PCpp chances are it is bad. Lesser known brands aka cheapo chinese crap are to be avoided

I've searched into it and I don't think it is worth 50€ for a new CPU just for a tiny bit of performance
